I Was Just Thinking

My boyfriend compulsively cleans the entire apartment all day everyday. He likes to come up with excuses for cleaning, saying I made something a mess, or whatever. But the truth is, he cleans because it's an obsession. He cleans things that don't need to be cleaned. He walks around the apartment looking for tiny crumbs or little spots to clean. I'm all for cleanliness, but hawking over people while they eat, to see if any crumbs fall off their plate is bananas. He investigates every area I leave to see if there's something he can clean. Even is there's not, he'll still scrub at imaginary things. As you can imagine, our apartment is spotless, which is nice, but I low key feel sorry for him. Just thinking how his mind is torturing him making him do all this compulsive cleaning. If a drop of water lands anywhere other than the sink, he freaks out. Imagine being that obsessive. Must be hard to live and enjoy life.

If he cleaned here he would never leave. Lol

@MissMollyCharlotte0702 oh, well, if he cleaned here, I'd make sure he left, but I'd need him back the next day.

He needs help not trying to be rude and therapy
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
He's stressed out by something, if he starts cleaning more than usual then whatever it is has become worse so ask him if there is something bothering him.

@originalGOS OCD is an anxiety disorder, I have it and I know what I'm talking about
originalGOS · 26-30, F
Yeah, but no one disorder is the same for every person. That's the mysterious thing about psychology. People have different triggers and causes. And no, OCD isn't an anxiety disorder. OCD can cause anxiety to someone, but anxiety isn't the cause for OCD.
Jackaloftheazuresand · 26-30, M
@originalGOS The ICD-10 agrees with me and the DSM used to. And of course they aren't the same when it comes to the initial cause because people have different life events but the thoughts and reasons for the behavior are the same.

Does he have a day job, just to get away from home?
originalGOS · 26-30, F
Oh yeah, he has a full time job. Anytime he's not there, he's here. Gives him a lot of time to tend to his compulsions. @SW-User

@originalGOS Omg, it's good that he cleans the house, but when it becomes an OC thing....I can just imagine how irritating that is. 😔
Serenitree · F
@originalGOS what's he like at his job? Does he drive his
co-workers nuts, or does he save it all for home?
SW-User
He sounds a bit like my mum lol
Send him links that contain symptoms of a cleaning OCD
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
He might have either OCD or OCPD. Does he have anxiety if things aren't clean?
