I Express Myself Through Writing

Although I listen to all type of music, Country music will always be my favorite.

Taken me back to to Music City the tiresome this old broken down bus will roll along and the radio will play a new country hit. Once back in Tennessee as I sit in the morning dew with a glass of whiskey by my side I will put pen to paper again.

So many years I was able to give feelings to words . I could come up with the ways to make everything rhyme. Old country songs that told of swinging doors, broken hearts, and cowboys and cowgirls. My songs were heard on every county radio station in the country. I sang my songs to thousands at a time .

Somewhere along the years , it seems that my writing wasn’t what the radio stations wanted to play. That type of storytelling had somehow gone out of style. No one was singing about sitting in a bar with an old friend , telling stories while drinking a frosty cold one. The tales of heartbreak and the women we had let slip away were all but quietly put away.

Now here I sit as the sun comes up over the mountains, I’m an older and lonely man. My time and loved ones long gone . Here’s to hoping that memories of a far away time will peak the interests of a new crowd. Maybe as the flip their radio station, something in the melody will get them to sing along.

Close your eyes as the music plays , listen to the words that are being sang. Hear them tell of a old country bar, good times and good friends. Shed a tear as you pour another glass and remember the love you had before she slipped away.

That was for all the country music hero’s who gave so much to everyone. Jones, Jennings, Haggard , Hank Sr, Whitley and so many others. Thank you . Also to my personal favorite Hank Jr , thanks for keeping old country alive all these years.
