I Express Myself Through Writing

Windy Creek

The wind blew her hair across her face, but she remained as stone, eyes fixed forward, but focused on nothing.

Sitting expressionless she stared out over the creek, knees wrapped to her chest in her own embrace. The sound of the water running by white noise in the back of her mind.

Though her body was still a torrent of thought flowed through her mind.

The times spent, the feelings shared. Smiles, laughter. It all seemed like a dream now.

How did it come to be this way? How could something so good become so painful? So lonely.

If only she could reach out to find the comfort she once had. To have that someone to talk to, that someone to listen. That someone to care for and be cared about, like they each once allowed.

Why couldn’t they understand? Was she not honest enough? Was she too honest?

Was she being to close minded, or did she want too much? Were her signals mixed or too narrow?

Was she not a good enough friend? Was she self-centered?

Were they?

The wind stirred again, her view nearly obscured by her own feathery strands. She closed her eyes and let the motion wash over her, letting it saturate deep within her soul.

There was no going back, this she understood.

The past was the past, only the now and the future remained.

Change would come.

Would it be for the better, or would the pain linger? There was only one way to know, and she would have to accept whatever came to pass.

After several moments she slowly opened her eyes and looked down upon the ground in front of her. Releasing her legs, she stretched her arms out to her sides, running her palms over the tips of the grass, snapping her thoughts to the present.

She rose upon her stiff legs and gazed down upon the path she needed to follow.

The path ahead scared her. She wanted the comfort of what was, not the uncertainty of the future, but she couldn’t stay here. That she understood.

Suddenly she was buoyed by the realization that while there was fear, there was also hope. She dreaded what was to come, but there was also every chance what was to come would be better beyond her expectations, and she could help guide the future in that direction.

She could try, she wasn’t powerless.

Drawing a breath, she felt renewed, and her eyes fixed on where she was headed.

But before starting she gave a final look at her surroundings. She saw now that it wasn’t as gloomy as she once thought it was, the sun was beginning to show, and the day had only begun.

A smile broke upon her lips as she looked down the path she was now to head.

Then drawing her jacket closer she took her first step towards the unknown.
