I Express Myself Through Writing

remembering a most special Christmas
just you and me alone like we like it
me with my arm around you
you huddled close

the darkness shattered by the
slowly dying fire
just a short time ago raging
like an out of control stampede

you said I’d like it
and you were right
roasting marshmallows
at the end of a long stick

never done that
not for a city kid like me
but for you it brought warm memories
of your life such a long time ago

and as the fire died a little more
we roasted our last one
pulling it off the stick
I put the marshmallow in your mouth

as the embers jumped and crackled
I pulled you close
and when our lips touched
the fires burned within

as the fire just raged here
such a short time ago...
