Were You Ever Suspended From School? [I Love to Learn]

In high school, I was suspended twice for "bullying". But I never thought of myself as that way but school had zero tolerance. I had to pull it together to graduate. Surprised I did actually.

I was suspended for one day -- for participating in a sit-in to protest the Vietnam war. We were in the lobby of our high school, and we were given an ultimatum to clear out or be suspended. We were suspended.

No. But other people had been for punching me in the face.

@Thevy29 and so they should animals be suspended that is 😝
Thevy29 · 41-45, M
@MedfordJay They were gonna do it anyway when the teacher wasn't looking. So I provoked them when I knew they would be caught.

jaysonsmith no i never and i cannot think when i was at school whoever did to be honest when i was at school bullying was not treated with zero tolerance in them days and was common as i can testify to we had corporal punishment the so the threat of the cane was always a good deterrent for some not all alas

Yup. Once for fighting
Suspended..expelled, came within inches on more than one occasion.
Only sincere promises to change, and a little deal making saved me.
MedfordJay · 22-25, M
@SethGreene531 Same here.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
Zero tolerance means they punished the person you bullied as well as you.
@greenmountaingal There have been lawsuits over that policy.
greenmountaingal · 70-79, F
@HairbrushDiva California is a great place to live in many ways. And the worst thing about it is that California does have its faults (and resulting quakes).
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
@greenmountaingal They should never, EVER, punish the victim along with the bully. They should ONLY punish the bully, and that's it. I will never kowtow to any system anywhere in the world that punishes victims as well as bullies.

Yes, hitting a high school teacher on the arse with a wet towel- snap I can still hear cracking noise when it hit
No, but I was threatened with it for refusing to say the pledge of allegiance. The “compromise” was that I had to stand but could remain silent.
Frank52 · 70-79, M
@bijouxbroussard I often wondered if anyone refused to say those words. I just couldn't believe that all the free thinking teenagers of the USA agreed that that ritual was something they could join in with a good conscience, just as I found the words of the UK National Anthem problematic. I'm glad wisdom prevailed and a compromise was agreed. I wonder if it's even more of a challenge in schools these days? Fortunately, we never had to do more than ceremonially stand now and again.
@Frank52 According to Politifact:

[quote] Students can’t be forced to say the Pledge of Allegiance under a 1943 Supreme Court decision that found it violated their First Amendment rights.

But, as CNN reported in 2019, it’s still "recited in schools across the US every day by students standing stiffly with their hands over their hearts."

That year, an 11-year-old was arrested in Florida when he told a substitute teacher he would not stand for the pledge because he thought the American flag symbolized discrimination against Black people, according to CNN, though police said he was detained because he caused a disturbance at school, not because he wouldn’t say the pledge.

@bijouxbroussard That's outrageous. Who on earth thinks arresting an 11yo will change minds about their place in a country. Madness. Germany did in the 30s and N Korea still do. 😡
HairbrushDiva · 31-35, F
No, I wasn't.
