Define a 'normal guy'....You have just excluded half the population. Add the Confederacy supporters and the Racists doesn't leave much room for the Fast Food brigade....

@KiwiBird Okay, you know I'm surrounded by men, right? As a junior officer in the US Navy, the vast majority of my peers are:
- not latent confederates
- not McDonalds customers
- not obese
- not racist
We (men & women) are fit, patriotic, motivated, mission-focused individuals who couldn't care less what color your skin is or who your daddy is as long as you do your job.

The typical, normal guy I work with is all of this. 🤷‍♀️

@sarabee1995 I think I have misunderstood your post. I thought this was about the average American.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@KiwiBird Well it is. And I realize I'm living in a bubble right now. But even back at university and back in high school...were some obese? Sure. Were some racist? Sure. But these things in the graphic were not the majority by a long shot. Maybe McDonalds back then. But not the others.

@sarabee1995 Racism is rampant in Australia. Perhaps the BLM has more relevance here. Plenty of Right Wing Confederate types as well.

@KiwiBird The confederate flag has a different meaning for southern Americans . It is not hated . It has a toughness and independence connotation lost on those who wish make it about racism . It embraces being a rebel and going against the grain.
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@TexChik I didn't mean to associate the Confederate Flag or Rebel affiliation with Racism. I realised I lumped them together in my first response to Sara...but that was building up the sum. There are groups in Australia who use that Flag too for reasons as you outlined...and an outlaw MC.
sarabee1995 · 26-30, F
@TexChik @KiwiBird I don't associate the Confederate battle flag with racism.

I associate with an armed insurrection against the country I love. I associate it with a surprise attack (long before Pearl Harbor) against the soldiers of that country.

I realize there is a cultural attachment to this flag below the Mason-Dixon line, but as a northerner I'm not sure I'll every understand it.

I will, however, defend anyone's right to fly it.

@KiwiBird What does the 1% refer to?
KiwiBird · 36-40, F
@sarabee1995
Some outlaw motorcycle clubs can be distinguished by a "1%" patch worn on the colors. This is said to refer to a comment by the American Motorcyclist Association (AMA) that 99% of motorcyclists were law-abiding citizens, implying the last one percent were outlaws
@KiwiBird And proudly so, I guess. 🙄

Thanks.
