I Perform Random Acts Of Kindness

A few weeks ago I stopped into a local restaurant to order some takeout for our dinner. I ordered at the bar and had a Guiness while I waited. The bar is shaped like three sides of a square and there was a wide pillar near one of the corners, so I couldn't see the guy who was eating on the other side of the pillar from me, but I could here him talking to his mother on his cell. He sounded like he might have been in his late 40s or so. He was talking about his rough day at work. Sounded like some kind of sales job where he had a large territory to cover and he was having problems with both his boss and his clients. He was distraught and complaining to his mom about how everything was working against him. He wasn't sure when he'd be able to take time to travel some distance to see her. The conversation lasted 20. Minuted and was still going on when my food came.

I asked the bartender to ring up his bill with mine and not to tell him until he asked for his cheek. Then to tell him that someone who understands his situation took care of it for him and hoped he had a better day. I hope he did.
