I Have Something to Say

I will never understand why people on here ask for advice for important decisions in their lives regarding marriage, love, finances etc. Come on, why would any serious person make an important decision based on advice from people they never met or dont even know? Can any person be so lonely and bereft of friends and trusted family members that they need counsel from strangers? Or is it that just the unquenchable desire for attention?

Could be any number of reasons to consult a strangers opinion.
Sometimes you realise you are so caught up in a situation; emotion; other connected people's b/s on a certain issue, you lose sight of a direction to head in.
So folk answer your question from the viewpoint from a neutral perspective.

@Picklebobble2: Why do you assume that people here have a neutral pespective and people who know you and who you know, dont? That just doesnt make any sense. It is irrational to me.

I don't assume anything.
Everybody comes here from their individual countries; their individual way they were raised and their individual way of surviving life.
It's in that spirit I take their information.

@Picklebobble2: sure you have assumed, the rest is wishy washy. Meaningless.

I don't think they act on it. They welcome ideas from others. Also, because people are strangers here and have no vested interests, one can expect unbiased opinions. Believe me, the no. Of opinions one can get here is far more and varied than what can get in real life...
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
@Unlearn: I also tend to think that they dont act on it. But to assume that strangers have unbiased opinions is wishful thinking.
Unlearn · 41-45, M
@Dreammmer: We all have biased opinions but if you ask my advice on something, it will not be biased against or for you. That way it is unbiased...
Dreammmer · 56-60, M
@Unlearn: Even your answer to this post is biased, because you are a human being and there is more that influences your reaction than you might be aware of. Same hold true for me.

Seems to me that they're just looking for inspiration. The people replying on here don't know the people involved, or all the gory details, but can still give suggestions. Even if the person doesn't follow the advice, they can still bear it in mind as they choose their path - it never hurts to have options, even though they might not all seem practical at the time - you never know what might happen down the road ...🤔
I get a tremendous amount of valuable guidance here ... the variety of backgrounds, intelligence, care and unbridled passion to jump in ... provides a resource like no other.

@questionWeaver: Sorry, I doubt that you or anyone else get guidance here. Just my opinion.

I suspect that some people ask here, because they already have an idea and either want it confirmed as the right course of action or wish to be talked out of it. They discuss it with total strangers, so that there's no one in their real lives whom they have to face if it goes awry---or if they change their minds.

@bijouxbroussard: It is very human to seek confirmation of what you already favor or have decided. You will find what you get.
I am personally reluctant when I read such posts. Because I know people and their tendency to only convey what they like to convey... In real life there is always another side to hear and more facts to take into account.
