I Have Something to Say

I guess I just want to share how I feel at the moment, I’ve been a shift worker for a long time now. I love my job and the adrenaline that comes with a high stress environment. I’ve moved up over the years and while the new challenges are intellectually stimulating it’s much harder to make connections. My role is now to really support and mentor other staff. When I get home I’m so lonely. It’s difficult to keep up with friends who work business hours. How do I get the balance right. I spend too much time at home recharging my energy

Im not sure what shift ypu work but i work 11pm to 730am and i have a fast paced job in the medical field. When i get out of work everyone goes into work. Sometimes i can catch them through a phone call to catch up as theyre driving to work. Maybe a 15 min call. Just to say hey guess what? Then im asleep when they get off work. I may wake up an hour b4 they head to bed. So ill call and talk a lil. I also work every weekend. They only have weekends off. I usually use my pto time to go to special events. Or ill sacrifice my sleep to have lunch with them or hang out. Its tough but im a loner so its also a great way for me to be alone without seeming offensive

@DarkSideoftheMoon Yeah I am in the medical field too and often work weekends and holidays. If I want to catch up with friends it will usually mean I have to sacrifice my sleep or use up paid leave. I have a pattern of trying to fit everything in and then completely burning out and staying in bed for days. I'm introverted by nature but still seek connection. It's tough finding a balance.

Look at stripping back your outgoings, and see what wage you could live on.
We've all done the climbing the ladder gig,and there's a time for some (you) to step back, and live more of your life, see your family and friends etc

As a mentor you need to think more about your staff in advance and write / message them.. and newer online friends are the best.
