I Have Something to Say

Why do so many antisocial people end up on social media sites? Is it like spreading their misery to others is therapeutic for them?
HoraceGreenley · 56-60, M
It could be because in real life people tend to stay away from them. Social media may provide them with the outlet of their thoughts that they lack in the real world.

It can be pretty distressing, however. I come to SW for fun, not for nasty rantings.

@HoraceGreenley: Really? How? From my perspective, it is either sink or swim. I'm very mentally flexible, and I often wonder why people who think that I am set in my ways frown when they realize that I am rather used to looking at everything from multiple angles. Socially, I'm far from the best, yet I can cut through data like a knife. :)

Most people don't want to jump in with both feet until they test the waters first. This is for people that don't know you well.

@HoraceGreenley: Oh, okay. Thanks for the clarification, then.

People are strange. :/ Fickle, too...

But not all of us are antisocial...

For some of us, it is far easier to write in text that we can modify before sending our thoughts and feelings out there. I have become better (verbally speaking), though I still stutter, slur my speech, and am a nonlinear thinker and talker. In print, though, it's a different story. :)

I know you! You're NOT antisocial! :-) I'm referring to the obviously hostile people who inhabit social media.

@veeceekay1991: Oh. Yeah, sorry....not me. :)

@agoodman: Please buy an English dictionary. You can find them in many places.

Perhaps because people take little notice of them in real life. Or perhaps in reality the proportion of anti-social people on here is no different to anywhere else. People who actively seek support from a site like this may find this question anti-social. It's all a question of perspective.
fazer1k · 56-60, M
It may be therapeutic to some. Perhaps venting on here is a way to try to force people to listen when people in real life won't.
veeceekay1991 · 31-35, F
Yeah, that makes sense. Thanks.
veeceekay1991 · 31-35, F
Fazer, are you set on stun, or to kill?
fazer1k · 56-60, M
@veeceekay1991: Just to stun - I like the advantage! ;-)

Sorry guys. I don't mean to burst your bubble. This is a social media site. And if you are suggesting that antisocial people end up on social media sites then we too are antisocial.
76starships · 46-50, M
Sadly, yes. It's an easy place to snipe at others and spew unhappiness. It's a pity to have to waste through all thatto find the interesting people.

Good question. I think they are not anti soc. They are just lack social skills.
veeceekay1991 · 31-35, F
Another good point! Bravo. I run into that whenever I check out at WalMart.

Yes. Yes it is.

A "thoughtful" response!
@veeceekay1991: Oh she's witty! Love it. 😄

@OlallaHyde: You should see me after TWO cups of coffee! :-)

Perhaps the old adage " Misery loves company" is actually true?

They are searching for victims?
