This is why I'm in a wheelchair: Spina bifida is a birth defect where the spine is not completely formed and they are exposed to the automatic fluid, which causes paralysis. Neurogenic bowel and bladder are caused by the Spina Bifida. It's where the nerves are messed up so you can't feel when you have to go to the bathroom, and therefore you have incontinence.
