I Have Something to Say

Rape, incest, seduction, impregnation, abduction 😞

I feel lucky because i was born in this modern age. If i was born in the ancient times those thing might happened to me at any time casually. Seriously i feel like ancient woman have no value at all, even the mightiest woman like their Goddess was raped. Here i have the list of some sexual assault in the mythological era on some legends :

1. Goddess Hera the Queen of Olympus. She was raped by Zeus, she feel ashamed for that so she accept Zeus marriage proposal. What's more? Hera was Zeus sister 😑😑

2. Goddess Demeter was raped by Zeus and Poseidon. And yes you guess it right, Demeter was Zeus and Poseidon sister

3. Pershepone, the daughter of Demeter from Zeus was raped and abducted by Hades. And again.. Hades was Persephone uncle 🤦🏻

4. Europa seduced and abducted by Zeus in the form of a bull (bestiality 😱😱😱)

5. Leda also raped by Zeus in the form of a swan (bestiality again 🤦🏻)

6. Helen of Troy (daughter of Zeus from Leda) was raped and abducted by Theseus

7. Medusa (yes, THAT medusa) was raped by the mighty Poseidon

Well that's it for now. Crazy right? I mean.. if the ancient people can made up a story like like i can instantly figure out how the society back then under valued a woman.

If i was live in the ancient times i seriously feel like someone can rape and abduct me anytime they want like it was not a big deal 😢

But lucky for us modern woman, now everything has change and we can life more peacefully

They weren't actually blood-related. You have to remember they are myths (which means people used it as their way of describing and explaining things they couldn't understand)
In some ancient societies, women were very appreciated (cause they give "the gift of life") and respected (I believe it was in Sparta that women were allowed to have land and they could also vote)
P.S. Athena ''cursed'' (some might argue saved) Medusa because Poseidon raped her in her temple (while she was serving as one of Athena's followers and meant to stay virgin), before that she was very beautiful.
@Melpomene [c=#359E00]well this is my perspective because i believe that we can get somekind of picture of a society by studying their cultural product, in this case the cultural product is myth. I don't know other method to study about ancient civilization than that one[/c]

[c=#359E00]i haven't read Egypt myth that much, only some of them. Soon or later i'll start it[/c]

[c=#359E00]it seems like you're quite knowledgeable about ancient Greek history, is that your specialty?[/c]
Melpomene · 22-25, F
@YukikoAmagi Fair enough, sorry if I'm being pushy with my theories, I'm just saying what I know and I believe the best way to get a better picture is comparative methods.
Ancient Greek history? Only what I need. This classifies more like Greek mythology because history is only what we're sure or can suppose something happened, and we need proof. For example, we're (almost) sure Homer is describing a real event in Iliad (in the language and mindset of archaic times) and that is historical proof (as well as hill and gold that was found in the place he described) but we can't check if there were any Gods walking down on Earth or raping women, only traces of beliefs and beautiful temples.
It depends what you compare it with; I believe there's plenty of knowledge and skills I need to master before I could say it's my speciality.
@Melpomene [c=#359E00]it's okay, it's good to talk with someone who have different opinion all the time, it's get boring[/c]

[c=#359E00]well yes i mean myth, it's different with history[/c]

This reminds me that the marry-your-rapist law existed in many cultures in the world until recently. It still exists in certain cultures. If you just google it you'll see.
This law and variations thereof allow a male rapist to escape prosecution if he marries the victim. Not much mention is made of what the woman or underage girl thinks of this.

It strikes me as basically giving the man permission to carry on raping her legally.

Human rights still have a way to go in our world in certain places.

@YukikoAmagi Fine. I'll just take my hero syndrome and go elsewhere.
@Wraithorn [c=#359E00]good, we need less Hero on this world[/c]

@YukikoAmagi I don't get it? You're so offended by mythological characters, yet "live and let live" to those who are doing it today? Ok.... 🙄

Yes, myths and legends abound in our past, many of them not acceptable today. But, they also exist in most of the major religions 'holy' books.
Organised religions are self serving purveyors of fear, all of them, and all involving generally unacceptable sexual, or violent, activity.
I no longer take any notice of myths, legends or religious 'teachings'.
I just accept that people should not harm others, but sadly, too many people do, often from sexual desire, or religious fervour!☹
@uknaked yes agree

Check out Inana (also known as Ishtar) and Ereshkigal from Summerian mythology. No one fucked with them.
Straylight · 31-35, F
@YukikoAmagi Science fiction, especially the cyberpunk sub genre, fantasy, urban fantasy, horror.
@Straylight [c=#359E00]what is urban fantasy?[/c]
Straylight · 31-35, F
@YukikoAmagi Like fantasy elements in a modern setting.

@Greenbare 1. Sure Cleopatra was a Queen but please also consider the timeline, these legends origins was much older from Cleopatra times
2. Hera and Demeter was a big Goddess

And my points is : if ancient people capable of making up such story like incest, rape, impregnation, bestiality that means they are quite pervert and of course as a women i don't feel safe to live in such society

I don't think it's fair to judge ancient societies by their mythology, just as future societies should not judge our society by Stephen King books
@GJOFJ3 [c=#359E00]it's only my opinion[/c]
Is there any goddesses that weren’t raped? 😱
@Mildreadful Astraea the Virgo 😁
GoodoldBob · 61-69, M
Women were strictly chattel back then.
@GoodoldBob 😞 i feel sorry for them
Brutalbastard · 41-45, M
