I Have Something to Say

I HATE WATERCRESS!

I had an excellent lunch today at the restaurant in the National Portrait Gallery in London. But the main course was covered in (unadvertised) watercress. I have noticed this in other restaurants. What is the point, even if you like watercress? 😈😡

I like water-cress, but the lack of choice I object to is condiments.

Why are so many things clarted with mayonnaise? I will eat it but much prefer salad-cream, but if that's not available I want the choice of mayonnaise or not.

I have once tried a Subway salad-roll. It was actually well-made and unlike certain other American-owned fast-foods, fairly good value for money. Also, the shop offered quite a wide range of condiments, but no salad cream.

"Why not?" I asked.

"Because the menus are set in New York." This is for bread and salad, not some exotic dish originating from mixed settler traditions in some very distinctive rural region.

"Ah, right," I replied. "No accounting for differing tastes across a 3000-mile wide ocean, and the irony that Britain's main salad-cream maker is an American company!" (Heinz).
