A ghost rose amid my mind tonight
And moaned aloud, moaned aloud,
About the past and you and pain
About force and anger and chains

He flickered among memories
Nudging shame And loathing
And pain and fear to the front
And every stinging thought to haunt

Until at last he found my hope,
The only glimmer of light around,
And he cloaked, choked, and raped it
Until no hope could be found.
