I Have Something to Say

I am saddened that human life is cheap and easily discarded by others. Today as I walked into a care home for the disabled. Many of them stay over Christmas and they are adults between 20 to 40. One of the care helper tells me that the remain that stay here is so their families can go away on holidays or have some peace. These people are sons and daughters. They all deserve to be at home for Christmas don’t they?

I don’t know. I can’t judge. None of my family members have been permanently disabled or put in a position where I need to take care of them for long periods of time. I get where you’re coming from, but it would be really difficult for all involved.

@SW-User I always think if it was a family member I would take care of them but my partner works in social care, one couple have a severely disabled son they have looked after for 45 years. I don't think anybody can imagine what they have been through and what goes through their minds daily.

Is this to give the families a break which they chose to take at Christmas? I don't have too much of a problem with that if they are with their families most of the other time.

This home is a permanently residential for them. They live there 7 days a week forever in a way@GeniUs

I would say that they all deserve to have family care for them, whether at Christmas or not. Anybody can end up disabled by disease or accident, I'd hate to be abandoned to the care of strangers.

Unfortunately that day and age has gone. It's someone else's problem and they want stress free lives
