There is an emptiness in the room
Where once pealed laughter
And praise and love
That stifles the soul and drives
The heart down and down and down.

The tiny tern has flown
And her song, heard often
On the beaches, shores, and seas,
And in my heart, faintly echoes,
A spirit's soft song that fades
And dwindles until it becomes

A similar emptiness in the world
That reminds of all that is lost
And all that shall return,
Sailing upon the wind,
Singing upon the sea,
Surging into the heart,
To fill once again this room,
To create once again this world.
