I Really Love the Mountains
I really do. You see the group pic. It’s exactly like when we leave our little town and drive home to the farm. Steep mountainsides.
In the summer holidays I love to walk in the mountains. They are limestone. And even though it never stops raining in Wales, there aren’t many rivers. They are all underground running through the rocks.
But there is a little waterfall I love to visit. It is a few km from the road so no one goes there except me. The stream plunges down into a gorge. It is lovely. And the only tree on the whole mountain grows there. She is a mountain ash. She grows from a cleft in the rocks. She is small like me. She is tenacious like me. She never gives up. Just produces 15 berries each summer. I hope she will be there for my children to learn from her and my grandchildren.
