I Love My Daughter
My daughter who is five goes to Kindergarten all day. Before bed time tonight she tells me she doesn't want to go to school tomorrow. My first question was why? What was going on? She said her friends tell her sometimes that they don't want to be her friend anymore because she cuts in the bus line to go home. I asked her if she was cutting in line and she said very strongly that she doesn't. I asked her what she says to them when they tell her she cuts in line. She said she doesn't say anything she just starts crying.
My daughter is still at that age where she just asks someone to be her friend and then assumes they are the best of buddies. I don't know of any other kids that are in kindergarten on her bus route but there must be some I would think. She hasn't had any problems with kids in her own grade. Her teacher says she is very kind and sociable with the other students in her class.
I asked her about the bus lines. She said they all go into the cafeteria and sit down in lines according to their bus routes. Since this is the first year our town has ever had all day kindergarten it would also be the first time kindergarteners ride home with the bigger kids on the bus. They have the kindergarten kids sit up front so they can be better supervised. The older kids who misbehave also sit up front so they can be monitored.
I guess I'll be driving home from school from now on. I don't think they should have mixed the young kids with the older kids like this. The kindergarten students use to have their own bus when they only went half day.
