8 Reasons to Love France (and I promise that each is almost as intoxicating as the last…)

ALL of the pastries

Sweet doesn’t even cover it: France is filled with pastries, treats, and enough other delicacies to make you drool at the thought. With macarons in Paris, the Kouign-Amann in Brittany, and the Navette de Marseille in Provence, you could quite literally eat your way around the country purely in pastries.

And while we’re on the subject of food: once you’ve tasted bread in Paris, there will be no going back. There is nothing quite like a genuine French baguette, with its crunchy exterior and fluffy interior. After picking up your €1 baguette, still warm from the oven, at your local Boulangerie, no bread product will ever taste the same again…

Life outside of Paris

When you first think of France, you’ll probably imagine the wide streets of Paris, pavement cafés and the twinkling lights of the Eiffel Tower. Well, while all of these things may exist in real life, France is so much more than its capital city, Paris. And if you choose to visit only Paris, then you’ll be missing out on plenty of cultural and enriching experiences…

Wine

In certain regions of France, you can sip on wine from grapes grown on the very land you’re stood on. There’s nothing quite like that sip of sweet rosé at the very base of the mountain on which it was grown. Head to Bordeaux for the best red wines, Champagne for the iconic bubbly, and Provence for the best rosé!

Contrasting landscapes

Entre mer et terre (between sea and land for all my English speaking readers!), France truly has it all. From winding lanes in small villages to the rugged coastline in Brittany and the crumbling châteaux in Provence, there’s something for everyone to see and discover.

The language

They often say that French is the language of love, and perhaps there’s something to be said for this. After all, French is lovely to listen to, and the accent is just as wonderful.

Café Culture

ALL of the architecture

From the gothic spires of Rouen Cathedral to the foreboding architecture of Mont Saint Michel, and further inland into the wide, Haussmanian streets of Paris… The architecture is wide and varied throughout the country.

And, of course, I’ve saved my very favourite of all the reasons to love France until last. From crumbling ruins to grand Renaissance palaces, Châteaux can be found en masse in France. Whether you’re in the countryside or exploring a charming French town, you can be sure that a French Château is never very far away…
