Why would someone with a law degree choose to not work as a lawyer and do something completely different from his qualification?

. . . and settle for a lot less money?

Where I live less than half of law grads are practicing ten years after graduation. A law degree is a good ticket to have for many positions and the practice is quite a grind and is definitely not for everyone.

"number 1 worst job overall was “Associate Attorney,”

"research suggests that they’re the most unhappy group of professionals in the western world. To cite one piece of support for this, there is research from the American Bar association that states that, ‘lawyers are really unhappy. Twenty-eight percent of lawyers experience mild or higher levels of depression, 19% experience anxiety, 23% experience chronic levels of stress, and 20.6% of participants struggle with problematic drinking.’"

Robyn Bradey- suicide rates within the legal profession are higher than any other

It has horrid job satifaction and tons of liabillity across the board, Very close like doctors who deal with much of the same issues and have some of the highest stress, and low job satisfaction also.

Its not always about money.
