Did your grandmother have a plastic-covered sofa in her living room?

Years ago, people -- it seemed often people who came from an immigrant background -- would cover their furniture with clear plastic covers. You'd go into a family living room and all the furniture would be covered in plastic. You'd sit down on a sofa or a chair -- and every time you moved an inch the plastic would make a creaking noise. Did your grandmother have plastic covered furniture?

Yes she did and so did the neighbor. The neighbor had plastic runners on their carpet too.

I had neighbors who had plastic and linoleum covering their entire downstairs. They didn't want anyone sitting on the plastic. People like that are deranged.
@SW-User Haha! That's super funny. And weird!

@flipper1966 One of the neighborhood kids I hung around sometimes. growing up. Those were his parents. It was mostly his mom that was obsessed with that. I sat on the couch once, and that was the last time I was allowed in the living room.

Hahahaha...OMG, such a memory.

No, my grandmother did not have the plastic slip covers, but my next door neighbor did and so did a lot of older ladies of my generation.

Funny thing is, they all seem to have that same darn yellow and white couch too! 🤭
@Peapod Interesting.
No, I only ever seen really old people do this, like older than my actual grandma.
@MorbidCynic Yup. It used to be popular -- years and years and years ago!
No. She, my grandmother, did take me to visit a friend of hers who did though.
Not an immigrant. Just odd.
I kinda want one.
@Looking Please say you're joking!
@flipper1966 I’m really not.
@Looking I see.

She had a plastic covered, sofa, carpet, kitchen table and once my grandad, he'd died in the holiday and was put in a body bag, I honestly believe that had it been see through she'd have kept him.

@RamessesII My friend has these in her hall. She’s only in her 40’s.
@Looking Yikes! Frightening!
@flipper1966 I’ve never seen her new couch. It’s covered in throws.

No, but my grandmother had an antique horse hair Parlor set. My mother made us sit on the floor!!

Lol, that was the difference between my paternal and maternal grandparents’ homes. My father’s parents had 5 grandchildren, we’d sit carefully on the plastic and not speak unless we were spoken to. Grandmother would offer us her cheek to kiss.
My mother’s parents had about 35 grandchildren. Kids, dogs and cats everywhere on everything all the time. Grandmaman would come in and scoop up two of us at a time, laughing.
So different.
