what should i do? i think ive got a slipped disk in my back

its soooo painful and i cant stand up straight

Lie down. Take anti-inflammatory medication. Use ice on your back. Slipped discs heal in time, but it may take a long time. Go see your doctor to confirm via x ray.

Take it seriously is my best advice. I slipped a disk 37 years ago and tried to work through it which only made it worse and as a consequence I'm still regularly in agony from it to this day.
Well, rest at first but then gentle exercise. Painkillers - not paracetamol...Ibuprofen or something similar. Normally, it will right itself.

dont stand up straight! try and find a position where you are semi comfortable, on your back on the floor with your knees raised up..go see a doc when you can

I'll pull an occasional back muscle and that seems pretty severe, too. Definitely get to a doctor straight away

Can you tell us what happened? dont go exercising anything until you know what you are dealing with

i was just sitting down having a smoke then when i tried to get up it was absolute agony and i fell to the floor

@TheCoolestCat you might be lucky and not have slipped a disk at all, it could be anything, pinched nerve, although if you got pain running down the back of your leg, and you felt like someoe hit you with a cattle prod its might be sciatica ,,which is often a herniated disk..it just seems really unusual for it to happen how it did, its usually a fall, or bending to pick something up at the waist and twisting. Rest up how ever you feel most comfortable and let things settle down a while, the muscles can go into spasm which will tighten and pull your spine to one side, so staying still might let it unwind..then..go see the doc!

edit cause my typing sucks at 2am, good luck mate

Hey, its been 7 hours, how are ya feeling? enquiring minds want to know
TheCoolestCat · 31-35, M
its a bit better this morning, still unable to stand up straight though, hopefully be fine in a week or 2

maaaate! im taking it that you arent planning on seeing the doc. Quick tip, if you lose feeling, or have numbness or you lose motor skills in parts of your hands or feet it could be a disk pressing on the spinal cord, and thats a no option but get your ass to the doc scenario..look up Dermatomal Chart, it shows what disk effects what nerves.

i actually booked an appointment with the doctor earlier but i couldnt get one till tuesday, maybe its not a slipped disk it seems to be getting better either that or ive become used to the pain
