Do you get phone calls from bill collectors?

WTF am I supposed to do when I have no money? It's medical bills. A day in the hospital is almost $10,000 and I don't have it. I tried paying them monthly but to them it wasn't enough and they sent my bills to collections anyway. I HATE AMERICA.

Capitalism at its finest. Drug manufacturers and insurance companies run Texas. And the rest of the country but d everything is bigger in Texass. Including the screwing without a bite on the back of the neck.. When Reagannomics was creating its recession insurance companies were still building high rises. With nonunion labor. Sorry about your experience. I never did co- pays very often. They can't jail you. And I've never had much trouble getting a credit card or car loan. Sorry you hit on a pet peeve of mine.

@kentex35 money is evil
kentex35 · 100+, M
@StokedFox you're right of course. I'm not a greedy person but sometimes I think I'd rather bee sad in a Cadillac than happy on a bus. Crazy huh.

You know I'm teasing.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@kentex35 sometimes I know I'd be happier living in my van than trying to keep up with this world.

Gosh I had heard stories about this before.. that is really shocking a day in hospital costs that.. I suppose there's nothing I can say to change this.. it's unbelievable that a trip to the hospital can end up making a person poverty stricken.. something should be done about that... :/
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User I think about leaving this country every day.
SW-User
@StokedFox in Ireland if I need to bring my kids to the hospital it's a maximum of €100, if I go to the doctor first and get a referral it's free
SW-User
@SW-User That to me seems exorbitant.... One can not know when they need to take someone to the hospital (I should like Canada more than I do?)
SW-User
That's awful. Could you get on a debt management plan, where you pay back a smaller amount and they write off the rest? It's not your fault you got ill.
I am so thankful to live somewhere with universal healthcare.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User you are fortunate. There's nothing I can do about it. I tried but they're greedy.

@SW-User Send them in. Contact your Aussie sleepers. Imma ready for a fight.🤜😈🤛
SW-User
@Gusman That's going to take a long time since I'm Canadian.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@SW-User Roger that, I'll be waiting😁
SW-User
That's just terrible to be expected to pay amounts of money like that. Hospital isn't a luxury it's a necessity. How do people get on if they have to spend a couple of weeks in hospital?
SW-User
@StokedFox PTSD is quite a horrible thing to live with. Hopefully it's getting better for you and i'm sure you are really strong for your son, because you always come across that way to us on here. It's a shame though that he is being forced to fit the mold as you said. I had that growing up, and nothing has changed even as an adult. Society wants to force us square pegs into round holes. I don't have much but i would gladly share what i have and give you both surf lessons if you ever make it out this way.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User I live for the smiles and the happy times. I don't see much of them anymore, but that is all I need.

Is there anywhere on this planet left to go?
SW-User
@StokedFox I've come to the conclusion that being alive is all about the happy times, and making as many of them and the most of them. I think sadness and seriousness are all symptoms of a sick society that i no longer want to be a part of.

There are still fun and relaxed places to go on the planet, but they are little gems hidden away left unexploited by developoment. That's where i eventually want to go 🏝🏄️🐬
It's not only America. It's global.

@Helpinghands do you remember the press, about 2 weeks ago banging on about Matt HanCOCK saying that people should get out more and go to libraries (even though his government has been shutting down communal spaces) etc to feel better in health and mind, which is a good idea but everyone knows that? Well what the mainstream press didn't report is they will roll out a health app (with lots of caveats) so you can get 'instant' diagnosis. Also what they didn't tell you was that if you sign up for the app you have to deregister from your doctors.
Doctors are funded directly through the amount of patients they have on their books......so they cannot underfund the nhs too much (political suicide) but they can underfund it this way and this leads to the politicians and experts (who have other motives, profit) to say the nhs isn't working and we need to look at another way......ie an insurance scheme.

As noam Chomsky said......defund, slate the service then privatise (I'm paraphrasing)
@gol979 scary stuff , thanks for the heads up. I’ll avoid the app!
gol979 · 41-45, M
@Helpinghands no worries dude
gol979 · 41-45, M
I'm so sorry to hear that.......I'm actually shocked it's $10,000 for the day
Gusman · 61-69, M
@StokedFox Got to start somewhere. Find out how much to move to Australia? Formulate a plan?
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@gol979 so true. It's how they keep our eyes down and our mouths shut. The equal opportunity bullshit. It's expensive to even be modest. And we brain wash our kids into feeling worthless so they'll keep being productive for old whitey.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@Gusman they make it very difficult here. They have way too much control.
DearAmbellina2113 · 41-45, F
I am just 100% real with bill collectors. When they call asking for money, I explain my situation and just say "What do you want me to do in my current situation? I can barely put food on the table but you expect me to send you $100 a month?? I can send you $30 a month and that's all I can spare, Take it or leave it." 9 times out of 10, they will accept the lower payment. If they don't, oh well, I guess I'm going to collections anyway.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@DearAmbellina2113 I don't answer. They can kiss my ass honestly they've misdiagnosed me the past two times I've been and almost killed my son when he was one because of their negligence.
SW-User
there is no help? That to me is wrong.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User it's control. I need to get out of here.
SW-User
@StokedFox Have a place to go? There is means where I live listening to you. I imagine it would be hard to go there.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User I will find a way. It will undoubtedly be difficult. They will tax the shit out of me until I still can't change my circumstances. It's the American way. Someone who doesn't need it will get it and I'll be stuck further.
Fuck. I'm sorry to read this is happening to you.

Things that nightmares are made of.

I can't even begin to imagine the stress.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@Teggy Canada is still on my mind.
User41 · 36-40, M
Yes.

I speak to them clearly until they say the word “bill”

Then I act excited and ask “Clinton?”
Gusman · 61-69, M
Is there a National Debt Helpline in the US?
If so, ring them and explain your situation. They may contact the Agency and help arrange a payment option.
Go online and find a free Financial Counseling service.
Seek help before it gets out of control.
Gusman · 61-69, M
@StokedFox If you do not come to some arrangement then they have the right to take stuff from your home equivalent to to the amount owing. Yes, it is disgraceful but they have the power to do that. Seek help from those there to help. Go on line. Help is out there but you got to look for it and ask for it.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@Gusman lol that will be cute because I have nothing. Are they going to take my soup? My son's clothes? My son?
Gusman · 61-69, M
@StokedFox I hear you. Then if you have nothing, they can garnishee your wages/welfare. Remember it is a Capitalist System, Capitalism come first.
Please seek advice?
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
Yeah, I've been there too. It's really infuriating.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@UndeadPrivateer this country is capitalist garbage.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@StokedFox It's a global disease, I'm afraid.
SW-User
My family almost went bankrupt trying to pay medical bills. We lived on only basic things for years to pay the bills. No birthday presents, no fast food but once a month, no movie trips ect. Dont fucking pay them a dime. Tell them to go fuck themselves. If you have no money they can't do shit.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@SW-User they'll probably start garnishing my wages. But yeah, fuck them.
SW-User
@StokedFox they have to sue first. pay them a dollar per month and tell them that's all u can afford.
File bankruptcy if they try to garnish your wages.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@Spoiledbrat I will likely have to go that route.
kentex35 · 100+, M
Thank God for that block this number button.
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@kentex35 they've started blocking their number to call me lol I never answer my phone muahaha!
kentex35 · 100+, M
@StokedFox you da man..er gal!
basilfawlty89 · 31-35, M
Jesus Christ that's a huge amount. Tell em to fuck off
StokedFox · 36-40, F
@basilfawlty89 they will get me
