My friend has been projecting some of their feelings at me/ through me...

They say I’m being “a type of character”. I’m not offended by this “character” but I do realize that I’m not actually this character. My friend doesn’t want to “give- in” to certain feelings they are feeling so they are projecting them in association with me and blaming me for making them feel how they feel. How do I make them understand that I’m not the cause of how they feel? How do I make them understand that they are the one feeling the way they have made “my character” be? That “I am” actually the way they feel and they are the cause of their reactions “toward me”???

Start crying and don't stop until they get sick of you for being a terrible burden. As they leave in total disgust, beg them to stay. It works for me. It might work for you too.

If they are thinking
completely emotionally and not logically it is very hard if not in possible to "make them understand"
People who do this can have a boredline personality disorder.

Remove yourself from the equation
Then let them see if the problem is generated by them ,,or by you
