Is there a difference between earning respect or being treated with common decency?

BlueMetalChick · 26-30, F
Earning respect is when you prove you’re able to do something that isn’t easy to do. Being given basic respect is when you treat someone decently even if you don’t know them.

@FloorGenAdm basic respect is not kicking people in the shins

Earning respect is when you don't give a reason not to trust you

Don't ask hard questions.
Treating someone with common decency means automatically doing just that. They don’t have to earn anything first. That’s how I think it should be, tbh. Upon meeting someone without knowing anything about him/her I will treat them with basic common decency and respect as a fellow human being. That respect is theirs to lose if they’re not what I consider a good person, but I try to begin by giving the benefit of doubt.
