At what point did you think you were going to die but obviously didn't?

rckt148 · 61-69, M
Well when I was 12 my Mom was beating me to death ,so I crawled under the bed trying to get away from her ,she threw herself in such a way on the bed that the frame broke and all of her weight and the beds was on my chest ,I couldn't breath
When no one heard me screaming anymore my brothers ran and got my Grandpa ,
They kicked the door in and he got her off the bed while my brothers drug me out from under it ,her weight on me made it impossible to breath ,I would have died I am sure had they not came in .
The first time I was as sea in a 41 foot boat and a 40 foot wave was coming at me and it looked like a mountain that just rose up in front of me ,,we were in a hurricane ,,,I was 17 ,I was very scared ,I just knew we were going to die ,but we made it ,that was not my last time facing that one .
I was putting out a fire aboard a yacht ,failed to make sure the fire was not going to re ignite behind me ,,and it did trapping me in the cabin ,my crew saved my butt
Doing a routine boarding and all the sudden they guys grab guns and start firing on us ,,and we were not armed ,,,thank God for bullet proof glass and a water cannon
The first car I rolled and my second heart attack (I did not know I had a first one ,they told me I had when they were doing tests for what turned out to be my second one )
But I was in a life saving service doing search and rescue for over 3 1/2 years
We put out lives in harms way almost every day
You kind of get past being scared all the time after a while ,its just part of the job .

Wow, you have had quite the rocky life. ....your mother did not deserve you. @rckt148
rckt148 · 61-69, M
@pennynoodles She made a good parent out of me
I just did the opposite of everything she did .
That beating was a week after my Grandma died ,she is the one who actually raised me ,did her best to teach me all she could ,she was slowly dying most of my life in pain ,so Mom did let me be with her a lot to help her .
But one week after she and her sister both died ,same night ,same hospital ,from totally different things ,1 hour apart (So I was numb ,I just lost my world )
She beats me to make me cry ,,she says I am holding it in and its going to make me sick .
And as she is beating me she says "Mom is gone now ,you are my son ,its high time you figure that out ,,Momma took my baby ,but now I am taking my boy back "
The next year I left home for good
I was married at 16 ,I was in the service by 17 and I only came back to help her and Dad ,,,,3 yrs when Dad was dying ,I took care of her after Dad died until she got his social security and then I went home ,8 months of that (But I had my own motor home I did not live with her ,even during the 3 years I was there for Dad I worked and had my motor home ,I refused to live in her home .
But the last 14 months of her life she needed closer care ,so we moved in the house ,,3 adults and a baby in one little room
As soon as she passed I called the mortgage company (she had put my Dads paid off estate $185.000.00 in debt ,not counting hospital bills )I told them I was leaving the home ,,I could have stayed there the rest of my life and only had to pay the tax's .
But I wanted everyone to know I was only there for my parents ,not anything the buzzards thought she had ,
I went back to my home ,,with peace of mind ,
In spite of how I was raised ,,,I did turn out to be a good son
My kids are forgivers too ,,they say after all I have been through and I forgive
they would feel petty to hold on to stupid stuff
So see ,,she made a good son and Dad out of me in spite of her
But I did love my Mom and Dad ,I miss them both
She had her demons ,,and I have had mine ,,,
She was just one of many tools satan has used to try and kill me or make me blame God ,,God has always had His hand on me ,,and now satan hates I'm not dead
Not only do I work hard to expose him ,,now my kids do too
I know who was trying to kill me ,I also know who would not allow it to happen

Whew, that is quite some story, thank you for sharing it with us. I also brought my children up in a completely different way to how I was brought up. Good can come from bad. @rckt148
most of my childhood, some of my teens, couple times in my young adulthood. each time i tried to commit suicide, when i had surgery, and whenever i get very sick.
@pennynoodles these days i'm pretty even, been sick for around 5 yrs and have chronic pain actually, but relatively well maintained i'm just in good spirits about it and don't let it get me down too often. my childhood and such, i found a way to get past all that. but do live with depression. it's a lifelong thing sadly, i have my moments. thank you kindly for asking

I had a horrible car wreck on 2005. When the roof and windows started breaking I was sure I would not survive. I walked away without a scratch.

In September I had a heart attack but never once thought I was dying
@SW-User 🤗
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
How traumatic for you. Have they stabilised your heart?@Mondayschild
@pennynoodles yes had heart surgery and I am fine now

Before my first two brain surgeries when I was very much ill. It was horrible for me, I remember that I had lost my senses. Later my mom told me she used to see some black shadows(of men) standing just behind my bed.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Do you literally mean your senses; your smell, taste etc? Or do you mean you couldn't make sense of things?@ABCDEF7
ABCDEF7 · M
I was having brain tumour at my brain stem that sometimes used to stop blood flow to my brain. But it is not what I mean. It is difficult for me to explain. I was able to see, smell, taste, etc. but the feeling was not lively. Even sometimes I used to nap, the feeling of which was totally different from sleep, it used to feel me that I was not there for some time.

I even had the out of the body experience during my first surgery, but that was a different story.

One night in 1999 I was falling asleep after a heavy work day and all of a sudden my toes and feet went stiff and upwards and my body froze, I panicked and couldn’t literally move I thought I was experiencing riggamortis 😂
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
It's not as uncommon as you might think to experience that. Definitely not rigamortis though! @SW-User

Gosh too many times to count!😕
Bean17 · 46-50, F
Haha I guess so! That’s a good way of looking at it, although going back through the list is still kind of depressing to think about.😅@pennynoodles
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Each instance is another experience to make us what we are today. Some are good, some are bad but from each one, we learn something. @Bean17

that would be a few years ago, when I accidentally set the house on fire, and I managed to get the fire out before the fire dept. arrived, but I suffered 1st , 2nd, and 3rd degree burns in the process. I do recall at one point, when I slipped and fell on the floor, engulfed in flames, thinking that this was how I would die.
I had a pretty severe post partum hemorrhage with my last birth. I could feel the warmth and vitality draining out of my body. Everyone in the room was quietly but very intensely working on getting it stopped. I felt like an outsider watching it all happen in slow motion. It was very surreal.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
How frightening for everyone involved. Glad you were okay. @ProdigalSummer

Several years ago, when I had pneumonia, I coughed constantly for about 24 hours, cracking a rib in the process. My doctor told me I could have died.

After a failed suicide attempt. Given the situation, there had to be some kind of higher power at work.
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Perhaps there was. You must take the opportunity of life now with open arms. @Druid
Some years ago when I had a severe throat and chest infection the doctor was worried was pneumonia.

@pennynoodles no, but it has improved function. . i am seeing a doctor from my managed healthcare and being tested. i still take medication to help flush my liver. i shall see when all the test results are done.

Did you think you were going to die ..?
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
Once when a car came round the bend going much to fast and narrowly avoided me. Just for that instance, I thought I was a goner. After giving birth to my daughter, I didn't realise that I was as unwell as I was with a kidney infection. They called my husband back to the hospital as they could not reduce my temperature and were pretty much worried that I would die. I know I felt very unwell but I didn't know I was going to die. @SW-User

@pennynoodles some people aren’t a liability behind the wheel, that’s for damn sure. So glad you are Ok now ‘Mamma’ 🤗
pennynoodles · 56-60, F
I teach children..... when I see the anger issues that some of the young people have, I often think to myself that I hope they learn to control it before they get behind a wheel. In the wrong hands, a car is a weapon. @SW-User
