In private sector your job is to make your employer richer than you. That's it. Anything else is window dressing.
If you 'generate' ten thousand dollars of profit, congrats, here's your pittance of a wage from that thousand dollars.
Private sector also tends to be non-union so good luck if your boss is abusive or rips you off.
Governments can suck, but in the least doing public sector work you're usually keeping a part of society operating that is useful to someone, and doing it -because- it is useful.
@questionWeaver ok, when we had a boat on Texoma, we had those and basically a glass room built on the dock. He had a big window A/C unit in there. Before I ever moved down here...he was on the lake, like a chick magnet! ugh. We got rid of the boat a few years later.
{Ilovefood] 🤫 difficult one i work in the public sector in the the united kingdom in the national health service . we according to the tory government have been heroes during the last twelve months during the corna virus outbreak . when it comes to a pay claim then stab us in the back and demean us by offering a one percent poultry rise
@iamelijah thank you but that is not the real issue health staff have been going above and beyond the call of duty putting themselves on the front line at risk for the good of patients then you get this tory smack in the mouth
Find your personality first. For easy and slow going folks, government jobs are best. Those who have more energy and have a thing for carrier building, should considered private sector. Those with high social skills and more inclined to take risk, should go for business.
Government work. We're allowed unions which are rare in the "real" world. They don't fire you due to age. Give weeks vacay and plenty of sick time. And you can cuss out your supervisor when needed. The job's not going to China or Guatemala.
Private sector jobs expect results. Government sector jobs do not. Private sector jobs have higher pay with the promise of even higher pay for those that truly become a valued asset for their employer.
Self employed people have to keep up with their own accounting and pay roll and 941s, as well as marketing, quality control, fee schedules, and they determine their own salaries...based on their production. At first most nearly starve putting all their time and money into their business , then as it grows they delegate more to their employees, and their salaries go up.
@TexChik
Private sector jobs expect results. Government sector jobs do not.
Sounds like your civil service needs serious reform. Where I live we expect results from our government employees too!
Government jobs are almost guaranteed for life. No one can really fire a government worker. Government jobs are not well paid, but they give you a pension that does not magically disappear after years of service, and you can't be fired one year shy of achieving said pension, which is a favorite trick of the private sector.
Working for a large private corporation, you are subject to the whims of the corporation, including cancellation by co-workers if you are not what they consider "politically correct", and these days, you can even be cancelled for things you put on facebook when you were 12. You can actually be fired if your co-workers dislike you.
@Picklebobble2 In the private sector they will push you out when you reach your forties. No matter your background, experience or accomplishments no companies will hire anyone over a certain age.
If you like moving around amd are a go getter always angling for a better location or a better job.. private sector
If you plan to live in one area all your life and raise a family and aren't into lots of change throughout your life. The government.

Depends the level of government. City and or school districts, not so great pay but good benefits. First responders.. horrid pay More federal level government. Pretty cozy.
