Medicinal Uses for Catnip

I planted some catnip in my garden a couple of years back and of course my three moggies loved it, but I had to prune quite a bit to stop it taking over other things. So I'm familiar with how catnip affects cats but what is less know is while it tends to wind cats up it has the exact opposite effect on people. It can be used topically or as a tea, tincture or infusion for many different reasons. I haven't tried this myself, it was something my sister was telling me about and even though it seems to produce a euphoria response in cats, catnip will not get you high! It can be used to treat cold symtoms, help reduce a fever, helps with migraines and other headaches. calms nerves and settles the stomach and a warm herbal bath with catnip infused in the water help to relax muscles and it can also be used as an insect repellent. Who knew? Have you heard about this before or tried any?

Hummm how do you use it for headaches?
RainontheMoon · 51-55, F
@Chasingthesun No idea, but it's best to see a herbalist who has studied all about these things before trying anything ourselves.
Virgo79 · 61-69, M
I've never heard much about any of that.
CheshireAzur · 36-40, F
Ah, more "home remedies" so people can end up in one of those episodes where their medical issue got worse, but they rather use social media advice from people who never took any medical courses.
RainontheMoon · 51-55, F
@CheshireAzur Actually, I am not and never would, soclicit medical remedies over recieving proper medical care when needed. But I do know that for minor ailments herbs can have a beneficial effect.
CheshireAzur · 36-40, F
@RainontheMoon Yeah.. I rather be the person to say that if symptoms don't improve after a week, go to the ER, or consult your primary physician.
RainontheMoon · 51-55, F
@CheshireAzur Which is exactly what I would do.
