I always thought college was supposed to prepare us for the real world. And while do learn some important things for the jobs we take, half the stuff we learn, we don't even remember after we graduate.
@Quizzical Butt, how is that supposed to prepare us for the real world. Like I have less then a year left and I already know that once I won't be ready for the real world. Especially when I make enough money to be able to live on my own.
@Quizzical I'm taking econ now b.c it's required for my major. But my teacher teaches it like were experts, only problem is 90 percent of the class are not econ majors, bc the class is only required for public admin majors (my major)and when the midterm came the class did so poorly that he had to change to total points from 125 to 100 bc the median was only 100. Please professors of things that we'll arent professionals
College is supposed to train you to be a professional in your career. If liberal arts, add the knowledge to appreciate life. As for learning how to live as an adult you simply need to read, talk to those who role model well for you in the areas where you feel unprepared, be willing to listen even if the advice means short term sacrifice and use your common sense.
@Melpomene Like for those of that are required to take economics maybe that helps. Like I just learned about tax brackets, but what about those students that don't need to take econ, how will they now. Or how about the important money-related thing I need to know after I take my two required econ classes. Or with the increasing spam emails being sent, which is spam. I used to think I knew, but with all the increasing amounts I don't know-how. Or how the heck are phone numbers are being solicited to spam callers?
@lizzy96 I have 0 economic classes and anything related to real life lol You just learn it by living. You call or show up somewhere and ask for instructions, if you can't find on the internet. Yes, you might feel stupid at the beginning but most of the people will explain it to you and forget about it, they might be even happy they did a good deed. And throughout time, you'll learn Just accept it that college isn't meant to prepare you for the real world, only for the job that you want to have (sometimes not even that, but you want that degree, don't you?)
You might not know that for another 30 or 40 years. I am sorry now that I skipped out on many classes, didn't realize how important some of the subjects would be.
@Tatsumi Exactly, I got a 74 percent on my env midterm(it wasn't required but I took, bc you actually kinda learn important stuff that is important and bc I care for the env) and when I was taking the test, I forgot the word for the question I was asking, and I had reviews right before. Had I remberd I probably would have gotten 80%. But there also those good professors that give extra credit or have their class grade based on essays.
