I Grew Up Poor

I’m part of a migrant family. My dad went to prison when I was young, and my Mom has to work multiple shifts to support me, and my brothers. Fortunately, the Catholic parish supports our family and I am able to go to the parish school. My Mom still has to pay part of the fees and between that and the rent there isn’t much money left for anything else. The best clothes I have are my school uniforms and a good dress for mass. The rest of my clothes are from the parish clothing drives except for underwear. My underwear is very basic, comprising white bras and white panties but I don’t have enough for every day to last between trips to the laundromat, so I wear my underwear at least two days in a row. My Mom buys the cheapest toilet paper, it’s so thin I hate using it and give up after a while. I’ve started working a job on weekends so I was able to afford to save up for a phone but my grades are now slipping as I don’t have the time to study. My dad recently got out of prison and has come home, he hasn’t been able to find a job and he spends most of the time drinking and as a result is wasting away the little money we do have.

I'm sorry, I grew up poor too, and it can have lasting effects. Let this experience be a lesson to you on how important it is to manage your money wisely and stay away from alcohol.

I'm sorry that. I hope you won't lose your light. I myself am no stranger to struggles. I'm the breadwinner of the family after dad died. It's a tough life to live, but it's worth it if you focus on your goal, on the good things. God doesn't abandon anyone.

It is good of the Catholic parish to support your family, otherwise it is hard to make ends meet.

That doesn’t define you. Go your own way. Leave that troubled man to his own devices. Your life is yours, not theirs. You have to do 500 positive things a day for the rest of your life to change things. Start now!

My family grew up poor too actually after my dad left us. Churches donated stuff to us and my mom would even give up her meals at times so that me and my brothers had something to eat.

What a sad confession. Maybe you can move out away from your dad. Keep close to your mother though, she seems great. I wish you all the good luck in the world.

All you can do is the best you're able with the cards you are dealt.
I'm sorry for your situation dear. I hope things improve for you
