I Have Asperger's Syndrome
This has happened only 3 times (that I can remember) but I hate when someone suggests that I don’t have Asperger’s.
It’s twice been accompanied with a comment about how overly medicated people are too.
If I were to be ultra-charitable, they could be trying to be kind by trying to say ‘you’re just like everyone else?’ Or ‘there’s nothing wrong with you even though society considers you so by medicalizing your eccentricity and shyness’. (And that’s being *super* charitable) (None of the original comments were malicious)
Even if I’m dubious about what a person says they have, I wouldn’t suggest any doubt to that person unless they were doubtful themselves.
It’s annoying. But it’s not like I talk enough to object and it’s not worth getting into even a mild back and forth; “I wish I didn’t have it either” is the snarky thing that went through my head the last time I heard it.
