I Hated Physical Education Class

I used to hate PE for all the usual reasons that teenage girls hate PE - being made to take part in competitive sports, changing in front of other people, having to wear inappropriate clothing, doing activities in the cold. But I have always loved doing gymnastics and running and I think it is so important to remain physically active if you are able to. Now I am a senior girl I help to coach gymnastics twice a week. Not all the girls I teach are so keen on the lesson as I am, so I try to be sympathetic to their feelings and make life easier for them. So if they prefer to wear T-shirt and shorts rather than a leotard, that is OK. They can also get changed in their own rooms before and after the lesson if they do not want to do it with the rest of the class.
PE is my favorite subject in school.. but then again i do a lot of sports anyway
@TammieBear i am part of my schools volleyball team

@SquirrelGirl That is something I can't do with my height . . it literally goes over my head! 🙄
@TammieBear yeah i am rather small too so its startin to become a problem, but i am quick and agile

Your right and wrong .It doesn't help their body image if they are hiding it all the time and can lead to bulimia etc they need to get comfortable in their own skin .I raised my kids nude which definitely gave them positive body acceptance .When I was at school we were often made to do PE and swimming nude which definitely did us no harm .Unfortunately I don't know what the answer is nowadays as being made to do PE nude or sport nude is a big no no and a lot of kids have negative body image .

@Rhodesianman You think every kid should do PE? That's a bit callous, isn't it?
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@Rhodesianman Body image is complicated for teenagers. I used to feel physically sick about having to undress in public, but a couple of years on I feel differently. It's good to be sympathetic and listen to young people's concerns.

Its good to listen and be sympathetic but to encourage it isn't I have seen the horrible side first hand .I don't know what the answer is but some how we have got to encourage positive body image and not pamper to negative body image .

Sports were not my thing either it was not for me and it is still not.

It's not only girls who hate it. I detested having to take part in competitive sports and I never liked getting changed in front of others. I also hated doing activities in the cold.

@NankerPhelge I am sorry because PE is the worst lesson for many people 😟 I hated team sports because I was small and could not compete, so I preferred gymnastics where I am only competing against myself. Now I play a bit of 5-a-side football because I trust the people I am playing with and we are all doing it for fun.

@TammieBear It's not only small people who hate it, TammieBear. I was taller than average in school and I still detested it. Not everybody is cut out for it regardless of gender or size. But if doing it for fun with people you trust is OK, good luck to you. :)

I hated PE at school for the changing rooms if I Train its alone on my terms, and tammie never let your size define you small people can have the biggest spirits
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@Peacefulsword Thank you 🙂 My small size is an advantage for the activities I choose to do, so I have made the most of it.

@TammieBear best way :)

We never had the option of wearing leotards in elementary school, just shirts and shorts. Personally, you prefer wearing the shirts and shorts, or do you like to wear a leotard?
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@nothingnobodynowhere I have a school leotard, which is purple, and two in my club colours which are green and gold. They are for competitions and displays only, I prefer to wear shorts when I am practising. Happily, I do not have to wear the school PE kit which includes purple gym knickers for indoors 😬
nothingnobodynowhere · 31-35, F
@TammieBear Well, I'll bet you look really great in your leos. :)

I'm guessing your boarding school is mono-gender, so there are no boys in gymnastics. Or is your club separate from the school?
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@nothingnobodynowhere Thanks 🙂 I do go to a girls school. My club is outside of school. It's mixed, but at my level I practice with female gymnasts only.
I don’t get the issue with changing for PE. We started that in fifth grade. Actually in third and fourth our basketball team changed in one of the classrooms before after school practice. It was never a big deal. It was better than sweating up your school clothes.
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@Txbob52 Girls are sensitive about most aspects of their appearance at that age and it does not help when their classmates make bitchy remarks 😟
That’s sad. I don’t know how it is these days with boys. We were brought up with out much if any regard for modesty among other boys and I think we were just more matter of fact about it.

I loved watching people get changed
TammieBear · 22-25, F
@angie8819 That's why I hated it 😟

@TammieBear I like all shapes and sizes so I was lucky
