What to tell your 10-12 years son/daughter , if he/she asks "what is it? " after a condom advertisement in TV?

The ad. break can be in between a cartoon serial.
Please also remember children's habit of counter questioning and they are well enough to understand literal meaning of dialogs in ad.

Well, having been 10-12 years old myself, I can tell you that most likely your son or daughter already knows the generalities of sex. If they ask what a condom is, I think the best thing that a parent can do is to be straight-up with them. They are used for protection from sexual diseases and preventing unwanted pregnancies. Sex isn't just for reproduction and anybody that has sex for pleasure is guilty of this sentiment. It's just a simple fact of our times. The sooner a child knows about protecting themselves, the better off they would be in my opinion. The best thing a parent can do is be thorough and honest.

Why don't explain what it's really for?
My mother was told that they are for snot when she worked as a housemaid. She was thirteen.
She told me, she never had picked them up, if only she'd known about the real purpose!

Well, do they know how babies are made? If not that's a good place to start. If they do then just say something like.. it keeps you from making a baby when you're not ready for one.

I have a 10-yr old and I know he would be receptive to the whole truth and nothng but. He is old enough to understand and he probably should.
