I Don't Believe Age Has Anything To Do With Intelligence

Don't you just love those people that look down at you because they are like 40 years older then you and act like they are more experience and know more then you? Yet when it comes down to actually knowing something in this generation they are as clueless as a rock ( actually that's offensive to rocks ).

I had these ladies earlier today arguing with me and one actually stated "you are young and have much to learn" and her age range was 56-60 then question my intellectual ability in knowing what is wrong and what is right. I am sitting here like really so because you're older then me you know more then me?

Sorry to say but the younger people such as myself in this generation and even younger will always know more. As days go by new things are being made, new problems arising and when your 56-60 are you still even bothering to learn what the new things are?

You may be experienced in Ancient Relic from 40 years before i was born sure but as far as current century i can be just as smart and experience as anyone that is 40 years older then me. Your age does not mean you know more or know less then i do and it also does not mean you are more or less experience then i am.

That's my opinion and so far when i have said that to people irl that is the mature way to look at things. You can be smart in something and be dumb in other things but please don't sit there and act like because you are older then i am that you know more then i do.

Let's not forget maturity this is also one of the main things older people say a lot as well. Sorry to say but age does not prove maturity if you still believe that in this century, please go crawl back under a rock. When you point out "you have not matured enough to know" yet stating that you are much more mature then i am does not mean your mature at all. Would a mature person argue with a person that you think is immature?. But hey people have their own definition of Maturity just so they can feel a little right about themselves.

These ladies can see me however they want while they are here insulting my intelligence or maturity. I am done with high school drama, stuck to the rules till i finished. Now i am in a Uni on my 3rd year got my MBA during the 2nd year, Make 6 figures, I am healthy, fit, travel the world in learning new things about every culture as well as exploring other uncharted waters and Guess what i am turning 21 this year. I can admit to be wrong about something but some people just can't admit possibly because of their pride.

As is why i am open to everything and i will not sit here and assume how smart or mature you are just because you are younger or older then i am.

i guess i can't say the same for these people as it seems like they are still stuck in the century where they think because they are 40+ years older then i am they know more then i do.

I don't know the ladies in question nor do I defend them, but I would like to add a little perspective. Having experience doesn't mean any increase in intelligence at all, what it means to me is you have already made a lot of the mistakes. Older people often feel like no one listens to them and they are no longer relevant. They have buried spouses, parents, friends and siblings. That affects you, I can guarantee. All groups seem to discount the others, not just age but gender, race and political. Someday perhaps we can all just discuss our differences and actually listen to the other side.

@lasergraph Very wise, i like this and will definitely keep this in mind.

@Nymnin Again, I don't know that I have made all the mistakes, but certainly made my share. I know you seldom win an argument, it just gets heated and both sides lose their cool. The other guy is always formulating what he is going to say next and not listening anyway.

@lasergraph That is sadly true, I learned, to not have your answer formed before the person spoke, if you do that then their is no point having the discussion. You gave a great answer by the way.

It's more to do with introspection, awareness and willingness to take on new information even if it conflicts with your current understanding.

Nobody is going to be able to see into your mind and know what you know, same as you can't with them. Life isn't a competition and the more you know the less you will feel like you know.

@ZenKitzune Exactly.

I grew up with this attitude so I know how you feel. One of the things I like about talking on here is that age, looks, gender etc shouldn't make any difference, it's all about what people have to say.

Nice rant!!! I'm in that age group. All of us don't jump to those conclusions. I gotta say, I'm on your side. I agree whole heartedly with you.
Nymnin · 26-30, F
@Tittieman yeah is why i said "these 2 people" i didn't clump you all together <3

Intelligence has nothing to do with wisdom and wisdom is what is missing in the youth since wisdom only comes from experience.
With that view of the world, You would make a lousy friend, girlfriend, wife, neighbor, EMT, Doctor, volunteer, CFO, Engineer .... just about anything

Good news for you is ... God loves you ... so you do have a friend.

Break your chains and live life

as like my wife - you know more than i ever will. - not every old person thinks they know more than you - There is always someone in this world who knows more than you - always.
Bushmanoz · 56-60, M
I actually with you on this, I'm older but there will always, always be people who know more than I do, I'm more than happy to listen to anyone who knows more about a topic. if you use age as your argument then you have issues, kids are smarter than we were, have to deal with more. The only thing I would say is occasionally I might mention life experience, my personal experience compared to someone elses. Not everyones though, there are people, even on here, who have experienced a hell of a lot in their years. So if I was to ever say it it wouldn't be meant in a disrespectful way, but more along the lines of hey, iv'e been there, or seen that, and know how things can turn out. Not the clearest answer..Im blaming it on being early
