OK then, who first said "If you don’t know who quoted it DON'T USE IT!"? Don't tell me you made that up today because I don't believe you. Someone somewhere is bound to have said that decades ago.
Mamapolo2016 · F
Excellent point. Odds are pretty good that whatever is said has been said in the same - or very similar way -many times. Original gets harder and harder to come by. Because somebody put it in print doesn't mean they said it first, so who is the thief?@Crazychick

But what I’ve said hasn’t been copyrighted so 💁🏽♀️ @Mamapolo2016

@NoSugarCoating If your concerns are legal or "who gets the royalties" you have a point.
But a) I don't get royalties for posting here - sometimes I get SW coins.
b) as I said, who copyrighted it has nothing to do with whose original work or thought it was.

@CoffinFeederright! I think there’s more bigger and better things to worry about in this world

I’m annoyed by it. @CoffinFeeder

I do my best to give a source. If I can't, I say I don't know.
However, it's not like most social media users would read a footnote or follow it if they did.

I have seen many quotes posted and by "", such as Eleanor Rosevelt. While she may have said it much of what she said was by others such as Plato.

Born: May 7, 427 BC

I’m sure they didn’t have a standardized copyrighting system BC 🤦🏽♀️ @curiosi
Mamapolo2016 · F
@NoSugarCoating So in your opinion, if Plato or Socrates said it, Eleanor Roosevelt used their thoughts and words (without crediting them) in a copyrighted document a couple of thousand years later and I copy it forty years later in a venue that will not profit either me or Mrs. Roosevelt's descendants financially, my behavior is morally reprehensible?
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
I know in America, It’s actually not illegal to do that via social media. But i think to show respect, people should put who quoted it.
Wiseacre · F
@TurtlePink often UNknown!
TurtlePink · 22-25, F
Then write unknown lol @Wiseacre

once someone posted a question and someone answered with a sentence taken right off the first website that pops up if you searched the given question but he made it sound like " oh, well in my opinion bla bla bla" so I told him "you just copied that right off google" and he got all defensive, saying "so what, what's your problem". I do think someone should respect intellectual property, no matter what the law say, but also to have the humility to say "this is not from me" even if you don't know who its from.

It's just a quote and they're almost always a repost from someone else. I don't think authors really care either, especially as the people who post them don't say they created it themselves. Plus why are ya so concerned with it? 🤷♂️

While I agree with you in theory, it’s a miracle if the average user on this site can walk upright, let alone quote a source. 🙄
FrostBorne · 31-35, M
Even more annoying than that are those that only post sappy uplifting quotes, or depressing lonely quotes. Get a life people.
SW-User
But they never say they made the quotes :P
NoSugarCoating · 22-25, F
But still you are legally putting forth something that isn’t yours to begin with @SW-User

@NoSugarCoating Girl...it doesn't matter who said the quote. What matters is what the quote says that makes it so worthy of sharing. You're cynical to think that people who share the quotes are plagiarizing. Not to mention some people hide their identities behind their quotes, so you can't blame others for sharing the quote without knowing whom it comes from
