📚 What're you reading? 📚

I'm currently reading Galaxy In Flames, by Ben Counter. Just started it, having read the two prior books in the Horus Heresy series. Been quite enjoying them.

What's everyone else reading?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
I'm kind of going back and fourth reading two novels.

Cryptonomicon by Neal Stephenson (a fiction book that's really hard to be summed up lol.)

“Let's set the existence-of-God issue aside for a later volume, and just stipulate that in some way, self-replicating organisms came into existence on this planet and immediately began trying to get rid of each other, either by spamming their environments with rough copies of themselves, or by more direct means which hardly need to be belabored. Most of them failed, and their genetic legacy was erased from the universe forever, but a few found some way to survive and to propagate.”

And also:

The Heart of a Dog by Mikhail Bulgakov

"The whole horror of the situation is that he now has a human heart, not a dog's heart. And about the rottenest heart in all creation!"

@UndeadPrivateer There is and I have at least 3 duplicate titles I'm.going to have to stop going to charity shops lol
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@SW-User Lol, I'd just use that as an excuse to gift them out to people. XD
Sepia · 36-40, F
@SW-User my hubby is full packed Tom Clancy 😄
Two books currently. One is about the lives of a set of identical twins. One has schizophrenia and the other looks after him. Quite interesting. The other book is about Ned Kelly the infamous criminal bandit. A good book too.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@PoetryNEmotion Very interesting indeed.

Finished Jordan Peterson's 12 rules for life about a month ago

@UndeadPrivateer I'm always looking to fill up my tool box lol
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@ZenKitzune Same. It's a noble endeavour, I think.
ZenKitzune · F
@UndeadPrivateer absolutely :)

Voltaire by Candid
Hard times by Charles Dickens
Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@Sepia Great list. Hard Times is brilliant. I love the fact that there is a teacher named Mr M’Choakemchild, or something like that.
Sepia · 36-40, F
@Harmonium1923 I was amazed by the story..I misjudge the book. All I thought it was about father daughter relationship. I was so touched by its cover and so much entertained by the story..I haven't finished it yet?
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@Sepia it has been a long time since I read it but I think it has some modern views on divorce, which was really rare and almost impossible back then.
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
A book about the Japanese internment camps in WW2. I’ve been reading a number of books about racial injustice lately.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Harmonium1923 The ones here in the state's, right?
Harmonium1923 · 51-55, M
@UndeadPrivateer Yes. Not a glorious episode in our history.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Harmonium1923 Indeed. They were dark times all over.
Peppa · 31-35, F
I need a new book desperately
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Peppa Same, I read all manner of things. Currently just Horus Heresy stuff on my plate at the moment though. Got two more to burn through that I bought after this one.

Have you read The Book of Five Rings?
Peppa · 31-35, F
@UndeadPrivateer no I must admit I've never had a group of friends that recommend books only the "popular" books like right shades of... bleh! Any good?
What's it about?
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Peppa Very good. It's a philosophy book written by Miyamoto Musashi. A major historical figure, was a samurai who turned ronin and became a duelist then later in life became a priest. Fascinating read.
Angelfire21 · 36-40, F
Kushiel's Dart by... Someone I can't remember. Getting out of bed to go look would be a lot of effort lol
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Angelfire21 I've read that one. I quite enjoyed it.
Angelfire21 · 36-40, F
@UndeadPrivateer It is excellent. If you like a good historical fiction, read Dreaming the Eagle by Manda Scott. That whole series will blow your mind.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Angelfire21 Duly noted, thanks for the suggestion.
Tracos · 51-55, M
just finished this one...

UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@Tracos Very neat. Enjoyable read?
Tracos · 51-55, M
yeah.... kind of a depressing ending... with some seriously inspired people making beyond awesome achievements... an nobody flipping cares....
the car on the cover actually actually does 200 MPG (equivalent) under normal driving conditions with a max speed over 150 mph.... and it was build in a barn... and no one cares... it comfortably seats 4 ... is mass productionable... and no one cares...

Whatever happened to Tory Scotland?- David Torrance
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@thatscottishguy Sounds like a bit of a dry read. How is it?
thatscottishguy · 26-30, M
Not bad. Can be hard to get through these books but I enjoy it.
Just finished The Sense of an Ending, not sure what to read next
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@InOtterWords How was that one?
@UndeadPrivateer it was good. A well written short story of a retired man looking back on his life.
UndeadPrivateer · 31-35, M
@InOtterWords Very neat.
