Is being desperate ever a good thing ?

I was reading this poem yesterday and it was mentioned how being desperate was beautiful.

“But there is nothing more beautiful than being desperate, and there is nothing more risky than pretending not to care.”

What do you think?

its beautiful to have been that way and to feel the elation and appreciation that comes with finally getting what you always wanted. its a valuable experience, but not one that anyone would want to experience. certain types of desperation are just awful.
@Gh0s1 that’s a great view point! I can understand that 😁

Hm. Beauty is a very loaded term, like truth. I suppose there is a kind of desperation one could find beautiful, like demonstrative of our struggles in life. Desperation in matters of attraction is quite odious, I think most would agree. I guess they mean a desperate passion. The kind of thing in romance novels. Rushing into an embrace, loving against all odds.

Risk in pretending not to care. Hm. I guess if you let what you love get away from you, if you aren't brave enough to go after it, you'll suffer endless regret.

Well, I guess it would be realistic to expect more of pathos from a poem, less of logos, in a general sense.

@Stark I should but I don't want to. Two reasons, one practical and one sentimental. The practical reason is war with your neighbors is bad. I've had a neighbor pepper my driveway with nails. I've fixed a flat on my car 4 times in a month before. Sucks.

Second reason is he's been disabled from bad diabetes for many years. He looks like a sickly little jaundiced Jesus. Now I hear he has cancer. He's smoking a ton of pot over there. Idk he might be dying. I'll ask the manager to talk to him tomorrow. Police after that I guess.
@DanielChristensen 😨 you have some brutal neighbors ! I hope it all goes well for you bud and you get some rest soon 🤗

@Stark Thank you. It'll work out. Something's gotta give 🤗
in an artistic or a poetic sense.. yes it can be depending on what it is that's being spoken about. not being depserate for just anything, but imagine being 'desperate' for the touch, or the kiss, or the carress of someone you have long waited to see again, who has been away for ages? it's a particular kind of thing, and not everyone can exactly grasp what they mean when they say it. i get it entirely, and i know what they mean. it's a deep sort of ache, that sort of desperation, and in a way, it IS sort of beautiful to desire something so much that you would give anything...or to even know that desire in someone else

Desperation is an exhibition of both painful authenticity & passion. To be desperate is to crave, to long, to desire without any pretense. Should I tiptoe around those things in my life which I want the most? Hoping that I will get them? Or should I run with my hands outstretched towards that which I want more than anything else?

There is nothing else.
Winterwanderer · 26-30, M
Are you desperate for anything?
@Winterwanderer I think I’m desperate for a lot more than I’m willing to admit.
Winterwanderer · 26-30, M
Then admit it! Desperation is beautiful, imagine if there were nothing in your life that you cared about.
Here’s the whole poem guys just Incase anyone was interested in reading it.

@Stark Thank you.
@Stark literally the way i live my life in the form of a poem,. cept for the fact that i don't care most of the time lol. brilliant poem <3
No desperation pushes whatever your desperate for away and you end up perpetually desperate and alone... People feel that shit and it freaks them out no matter what the desperation is for
@MushroomFaerie I can see how that’s true in a lot of situations.
Serenitree · F
I see what you mean by saying it just starts another line.

And this isn't a poem. It's a series of thoughts on the randomness of life and how easily we might lose the chance to say something we really want to say. Or do.

Thank you for this thought provoking post. It sent me scurrying to find the complete text, which in fact is really quite a quick read. And worth taking the time to read.
@Serenitree Haha that’s good I didn’t think anyone would want to read it that’s why I didn’t post it but I could have just pm it to you. I didn’t think to do that😝
Serenitree · F
@Stark It's all good. I love the hunt. I like finding things. It's like earning something. It's always more valuable if you have to work for it.

Please do post the complete piece. I think others can enjoy it too.
@Serenitree okay 😁

You have given me more than you can know. In posting this, you led me to search for the poem. In searching for the poem I found The Thought Catalog on Facebook. There is the place where we can write what people here on SW seem unable to truly enjoy and appreciate. I love writing. I kind of lost my incentive to write, when I discovered there aren't many here who appreciate the ones who do.

@Serenitree aw this is so sweet!🤗 yes, I know what you mean I genuinely enjoy post like this that gets people to truly express who they are and show a different side of themselves that others aren’t usually able to see. I was surprised by how many deep and thoughtful answers I received 😱 some even from people I never realized could be serious and I loved it. I do wish there were more post similar to these but as you said, they’re not typically appreciated. I really didn’t expect to get any replies and I’m extremely glad I did because it changed my view point and gave me a different perspective of things which I love.

@Stark Check out Thought Catalogue, on Facebook. I've seen a few very interesting posts, in the few minutes I spent browsing.

@MalteseFalconPunch that’s true 😔 Im not very open with my feelings as to what lead me to reading this poem. Why don’t you just straight up ask her ? You may not get the answers you want but you’ll have answers and you’ll know, she could be feeling the same way but you’ll never know. 🤷🏽‍♀️

Only if it forces you to change the behaviors that brought you to desperation in the first place.
@Stark For me, alcohol is what brought me to despair. In turn, this unfortunate situation actually became a beautiful gift. For in my desperation I finally became willing to do whatever it took to recover. Had I not reached that bottom, and the desperate circumstances I found myself in, I might not be here to post this reply.
@HungJury thank you for your input it’s definitely changed my view point about this.
@Stark You're welcome.
i dont think this was meant to be desperate, in that pushy hit on kind of way. but striving, without being thoughtful about it.
and i DO agree with that idea of risk
@SatyrService nice 😋
@Stark i have seen desperate beauty, aching clear, often tragic.
false disdain , ill never try again,
but confess, if I see it,
i may be drawn

Maybe the second part of that sentence is alright, but I see few situations where being desperate is beautiful.
@SW-User like what?
SW-User
@Stark So there's the relationship desperation, that isn't beautiful, I feel. But if you're desperate to say, survive, it brings out a heroic response in others, and that whole situation can become beautiful if everyone survives.
@SW-User interesting 🙂

I've been told, many times, it's not a desirable trait to have if your seeking a relationship with someone. I can see why.

Desperation is generally not a thing of beauty....though sometimes it can ultimately lead to something beautiful.

I think that this poem is true
Ajz59852 · 36-40, M
@Stark pretending not to care is a risk and being desperate is beautiful
@Ajz59852 that’s basically the same exact words as the poem..
Ajz59852 · 36-40, M
@Stark the poem speaks for itself
Thank you for all your wonderful replies, honestly 90% of them deserves best answer 😨
I guess that’s one person’s perspective. I’ve heard people say vulnerability can be beautiful but that’s different.
@bijouxbroussard I do agree with the vulnerability part.
english · 56-60, M
The poet was drunk needs a slap 😕

@Countrygirl93 I agree, it has thrown a bit of confusion my way because I’ve never viewed being desperate as a beautiful thing. More of sad, and I think you just end up settling which just leads to being miserable
Serenitree · F
There's no context here. It's just a couple of random statements. It might make more sense if we knew the complete poem.
@Serenitree I’m not referring to the whole poem just that one sentence as in do you view being desperate a beautiful thing. There’s no examples of it in the poem, it just starts another line and the poem is also extremely long.

It can be both beautiful and dangerous.
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
I think in the traditional way we see and think of it no. But maybe it is being described in the sense of being so in love with your partner you’d be desperate to keep them because they mean so much to you. You may even do things that for anyone else you’d barely care to try. But I didn’t write it so not sure
@Mrsbetweenfatandfit that makes sense 😌 always so wise
Mrsbetweenfatandfit · 26-30, F
@Stark that notion is often shared in thought of you 😊
NudasPriest · 46-50, M
Raw, passionate honesty is far more beautiful than hiding behind a safe facade.
@NudasPriest that is true
Zonuss · 41-45, M
No. Its not a about how much you pull. Its about how you pull them.
