I Hate Wearing Shoes

I honest to God don’t understand people who wear shoes inside their own house. I’m just extremely astounded and flabbergasted by it... But to each their own! Words cannot explain how much I adore being barefoot (and my big bare feet) and how much I despise/loathe (wearing) shoes and socks.

I got rid of all my shoes and socks and am now barefoot 24/7. I’m only a few months away from going through a year without putting any yucky shoes or socks on my feet! Keep the barefoot alive and kick those shoes and socks to the side!

You go girl! The first year barefoot is Absolutely amazing and the second year is so much better keep away from them shoes and socks and stay barefoot 🙂
BarefootLeilani · 22-25, F
@KatieJ Thanks girl! Sounds like we’d make a great barefootin’ buddies on this site! Imagine how intimate a friendship we’d have if we grew up together. I will for sure keep away from those nasty uglies shoes and those yucky mucky socks. I hate them SO MUCH!

I am always barefooted in the house, and encourage anyone who visits to be, too.
I don't get why people wear shoes in the house. But since I don't like shoes or socks, I don't get why so many love 'em at all.

Shoes always come off as soon as I get in the front door. Sometimes before my coat! I rarely wear socks but if I have them on, they come off at the same time. Always barefoot in my home, no matter the time of year. It feels weird if I'm not.

One of the first things I do when walking into my house is taking off my shoes.
datamiko · 51-55, M
Totally agree. I've never understood shoes on in the house.
GkB01 · 51-55, M
I don't wear shoes in my own house, but I will wear slippers especially on days such as today which are a lot colder than it has been. I do like the opportunity to get my socks off and free my toes. I really admire the fact that you are nearly a year without shoes and socks.

We have carpets everywhere so I don't but it's quite cold here right now so I'm sure I'd wear them if we had laminate flooring or tiles.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover wearing socks on laminate floors can result in falls, and injury, it is better to be bare foot, although that can be cold.
CrazyMusicLover · 31-35
@samueltyler2 That's why I would wear sandals, slippers or anti-slip socks.
samueltyler2 · 80-89, M
@CrazyMusicLover I dislike sandals or flip flops almost as much as shoes. The antislide aren't really very effective. I have a rug in my den, so I walk there barefoot then put on socks if my feet are cold.

I don't know your climate or lifestyle but it will be fun to make a year minus footwear. Let us know when you make that milestone. I've done weeks , maybe a month, but not close to a year. Socks have been gone for many years and closed toe shoes don't exist in my wardrobe but I don't think I could pull off a full barefoot year but I'd love to give it a try.

Good for you!!! 👣👣 In my house, I have to be barefoot!!
My employer freaks out when I commit the crime of wearing no-show socks. We have a ways to go.
BarefootLeilani · 22-25, F
@SeriouslyFlippant Well I would advise him not to hang around my girlfriends and our moms. We have very strong opinions that supporting barefooting. We never wear shoes or socks on our feet. Like ever...
I’ll offer the warning. Women in Birkenstock’s are mysteriously acceptable, though. @BarefootLeilani
BarefootLeilani · 22-25, F
@SeriouslyFlippant Real talk bro. Even though I don’t wear anything on my feet, not even sandals. I love birks. They’re so cute. I have a lot of friends that wear them and they look kickass. It’s funny how they were once old man shoes and now they’re teenager and young adult shoes. Boy have the tables turned.

shoes in the house is weird. its too cold here now to be barefoot so slippers are required. i never wear socks in the house
BarefootLeilani · 22-25, F
@mazza62 Okay, cold climates make sense. However, you can train your feet to toughen up and handle cold weather. Trust me.

@BarefootLeilani i like my home comforts. i am not messing around like that. lifes too short. im impressed by those who do this though
Here’s one reason of which you may be unaware.
As a diabetic I don’t dare go barefoot anymore. I wear slippers even in the house. I have wood floors; I sweep and vacuum regularly, but it’s impossible to catch absolutely every staple, tack, piece of grit, etc. Part of the disease often means progressive nerve damage, and one can’t always discern even a really minor foot injury until it’s become infected. That’s how, especially older people, end up with complications, amputations, and such.
It was a small thing for me to give up, costing me nothing in terms of staying healthy.
QuixoticSoul · 41-45, M
@bijouxbroussard I spent a part of my career in an adjacent engineering field, anything to do with extremities and diabetes is absolutely no joke.
BarefootLeilani · 22-25, F
@bijouxbroussard I’m so sorry! 😢. Yes, I am aware that unfortunately some people have some health circumstances where they can’t go barefoot. Or perhaps it’s often ill advised for them to do so. I understand that.
