What are things that could be done beforehand to ensure that this hope is a reality?

I think the more we talk about it , the better the chances we have of bringing this hope to become a reality. Could it not be very helpful to go thru a marriage preparation course, together, one that is designed to make both partners aware of the things that go wrong and what could be done in advance to avoid them or fix them or at least be prepared and know what to look for as red flags? I think this alone would help tremendously.
