Have you ever been guilt tripped before?

I'm a Christian and sad to say, I've been guilt tripped by other Christians who felt that I should be living my life a certain way.
A “Christian” once informed me that the loss of my husband and son was “God’s punishment” for my friendships with gays and lesbians. I told her that was no god I felt obligated to serve. I never went back to that church. 😞

@bijouxbroussard That was no Christian. That is just horrible.

@bijouxbroussard What a terrible thing to say.Im sorry for your loss.

@bijouxbroussard Just wow. That is about the most cruel and "unChristian" thing I've heard of being said by a self-proclaimed "Christian".

It's called Catholic guilt.

It's a power greater than anything the Avengers had.

@SW-User You are excused.

No, but it’s happened to my friend. Her ex told her she was an egregious sinner because she was jealous that he was always bailing on her to be with this group of friends that she wasn’t included in and spent all his time with instead of her. Apparently the problem was not the way he treated her and blew off her her feelings, but that she was a sinner.

@latinbutterfly actually, it’s not God’s will for a woman to be in the kitchen. It’s the will of traditionalists or the 1950s. Being a working mom is something to be proud of.

Times change. But God’s will has always been to love one another and follow where he leads you. Sometime people call their own opinions or personal beliefs God’s will. But if God did not want you to be a working mom, he wouldn’t have led you to lead that life.
@YoungPoet345 Oh yeah, I knew that this person had no clue what they were talking about. It's not easy being a working mom but it's the right path for me.

@latinbutterfly yes, I’m happy for you

The question for me is not, do others make me felt guilty. But by me doing something or not doing something makes me feel bad?

I think people try to advise in how they were train/taught to feel if they did or didn't do something.

This is not always a bad thing, is also known as having a standard.

I honestly don't believe that anyone else can make me feel guilty unless there's something inside of ME that feels that way.
@QueenandCrown That is true. Many of us grew up differently with different sets of rules and expectations from our respective parents, and sometimes we tend to forget that.

Yup, by family, by friends, by strangers, by religious people, by cults, by so called influencers and even by people who I counted on.

What I did? I smiled back in a way that made them realize that I can see through their BS. Use that technique, it works. They will either stop or get annoyed and go away. Either way it's a win.
Denominations have their differences so that's expected from individuals with overbearing personalities

Yes. As for religion. I'm too good at makes my fun of those blowhards to be offended by them

I’m sorry - it’s a form of psychological manipulation that rarely helps any situation.
Piper · 61-69, F
OH yes, many times. Sometimes the attempt to even worked, for a while.
