What's the point of writing a novel if no one is ever going to read it?

You will read it. And you will be happy that you wrote it. Also, you can self-publish on amazon so who says no one will read it?

If the pandemic worsens and stores sell out of toilet paper we might need your novel lol jk

Because there's a chance of someone someday reading it and enjoying it.

Perhaps it’s just one of those things in life that you feel has to come out of you.
You have an idea and you need to get it out of your mind into a readable form.

I imagine artists feel the same.
Or composers !
@Picklebobble2 Not worth the bother the characters have already grown old and unsteady both physically and mentally, and worse, have taken on airs of desperation. It's sad watching them pushed back like useless invalids in my mind.

@Grateful4you Maybe it’s time for a new story.
@Picklebobble2 I would rather be faithful to old characters who have become comfortable old friends and know their own way around me, they know the secrets as well as I do, storylines, plots, character development, they are the clever one's. "They" make the magic. LOL
EXACTLY! I wrote one & no one read it.

@DarkCrazyArtistGeekGamer I can't even get most of my friends to read what I write.

For yourself ?
If I penned a good story and manage to complete it, I don’t give a flying f*** if no one read it.

it's hard not to write if it is something inside you whether it gets published or not

The very question I've been asking myself for a while now.
maybe they'll read it when you're dead.
