Is "attractive privilege" real?

Do you treat people better if they're good looking?

I used to work in customer service. I wonder if I ever treated anyone better or gave them a pass because they were good-looking. I'd like to think I didn't, but we're assuming this is subconscious behavior here.

People are generally unaware of how their demeanor affects how they are treated. Having natural attractiveness puts some at an unfair advantage, but I was shocked to read about how attractive women are taken less seriously in the business world. I can sound so nice and polite on the phone that I likely get treated far better than others by customer service representatives. Make them want to help you and they will be more likely to acknowledge your point of view. I think the attractiveness factor is far more significant in the entertainment industry where people become obsessed with their appearance. In the business world, your competence should be your greatest asset rather than the way you look.

I always gave special attention to cuties. If I was on the phone with a customer and a cute gal walked up I would just hang up. I remember going in to the restaurant where I worked one afternoon and I saw the love of my life for the first time talking to the manager. My first thought was "She's hired!" Then came 8 years of heartache.

It's a proven thing. Attractive people get reduced sentences in court.

People treated me just as much like shit when I was very attractive so I don't think so.
