Is it better to own or rent if you are single?

SW-User
Rent. I've made a decision that I'll only buy a house if I'm going to settle down.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@SW-User You can get a property company to take care of everything for you.I have a rental property and a house we live in.
SW-User
@tallpowerhouseblonde That's convenient. How much does the company charge?
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@SW-User It depends on how much they do for you.A set fee to find and get tenants or they agree to pay an agreed amount to you each month and the tenants money goes to the property company.
Buy unless you're planning to move in the next year buy. No matter what if you purchase a home it's yours and you you will feel way more comfortable being there. The biggest mistake people make is that they postpone their life until they meet the right person or they wait until the absolute perfect time. But, this is a fallacy that people fall into. Don't let another person define you. Define yourself and then build yourself up with that other person.

Own, as a tenant you're paying your landlords mortgage and at the end you own nothing.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
@Johnblackthorn Exactly like this.

It depends financially and their positions
Own. Rent is like throwing it away
SW-User
Depends. I'm single, my kids live on their own. I own my home. It's a pain when things need maintenance or repairs. When things go wrong I wish I rented so somebody else could pay for things.
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@SW-User True. Only thing is that rent can end up being more than a 30 year mortgage.
SW-User
@SubstantialKick yes. But, that works out better for people who enjoy change. No worry about taking a loss on the sale of a house. It's a coin toss.

Owning a home is always sound financial advice, even if you use it as rental income.
That being said, were I ever to rent again, I would rent a house (because I've only seen one apartment in my life that was actually soundproof from the neighbors).

It depends on your faith in the current financial situation. I lost everything in the 2008 recession. Right now, I don't trust banks. They took my house and got a bailout.
tallpowerhouseblonde · 31-35, F
It's more which direction property prices are moving.Downwards then rent, upwards then buy.
Steve42 · 56-60, M
Young or old, if you are going to stay put own. If you see yourself moving around, rent.
MrAboo · 36-40, M
I guess it depends what you want to do... I want to homestead, so owning is a priority for me
Iwontsayitdidnthurt · 31-35, M
Buy one, I think I can always rent it out if I am moving to a different city.
indyjoe · 56-60, M
I hated renting...I would have gladly bought if I could've afforded it.
Picklebobble2 · 56-60, M
Stuffed either way.
Owning is always better
DDonde · 31-35, M
You can afford to own? 🤔
SubstantialKick · 31-35, M
@DDonde Not at the moment, but maybe in the future.
Zonuss · 41-45, M
Rent for a while. Own when you are ready to settle down and live. 🙂
