I'm going to jump out of a plane one of these days (with a parachute). Any advice?

There must be some sky divers out there. I have a friend who recommended a jump school in Lace Elsinore, CA. Anyone know anything about this?

I've done it before, from a helicopter, without a parachute.

Fortunately we had landed.

@Abstraction If I had no parachute, I would fear landing a LOT unless it was the helicopter doing the landing with me in it.

@greenmountaingal I had a friend who was in a helicopter that broke down mid-air and just went down. They all survived, amazingly. Apparently the spinning rotor can be enough to slow it down.

@Abstraction Your friends were fortunate. I have never been in a helicopter but have always wanted to.

it is well known among aviators that no sane person will ever voluntarily leave a perfectly serviceable aircraft when it is in the air.

We had a mean ass 1st sgt who would make us jump every payday

@MarineBob Did you get your paycheck when you landed?

I've been. I went tandem though. So you can jump that day. It was great, everyone should do it once.

@Peaceful I intend to. Tandem sounds good and would make me feel secure. But someone I met about a week ago told me she did it that way and felt restricted in movement and covered with bundles like a pack mule.

@JupiterDreams just jump out backwards like I did. Level 2 jump, but it was easier. I talked my tandem guy into it right before we went 😅

@greenmountaingal that's weird. Is she bigger? Maybe that's why.

Prior to becoming sane, I did training using a static line attached to the plane that opened the chute. Way more fun than tandems but I don't think they do static anymore.
