Dutch are ... orange?

For an upcoming event, I was advised to wear orange, cuz orange is all about the Dutch. Have you ever heard of such a thing? Are there nations or nationalities you associate with countries and people? I usually think of orange as being an irish protestant sort of color. Red maybe with china or Soviet era Russians. And white for Canadians.
