Did your Dad think of himself as a handyman, but everything he built was crooked, cracked or it fell apart?

Mine did.
My dad is excellent with that kind of thing. I was lucky to glean enough practice from his projects that I could fare well enough on my own.

Nah, my dad thought of himself as a handyman, and generally did far higher quality work than people who actually made their livings as such. Sadly, he was strongly averse to teaching others anything he knew.

@Keraunos My Dad's insecure, which is why he's always talking about how great he is.

@Allelse Mine is probably insecure in a different way. Truth is, he's actually done a lot of really awesome shit in his life, so he kind of knows he's "great" and doesn't need to brag much about it. He's more saddled with abandonment issues, feeling insecure about receiving consistent love and loyalty from other humans, including his family.

@Keraunos Mine's just an idiot.

No. My dad wasn鈥檛 all that focused on stuff around the house, but whenever he put his hands on anything, it ended up in top shape. Engineer magic.

No, my father thought he was above that. 馃檮

nope; father is one of the best, most respected, most liked, etc. contractors around here. was a licensed carpenter before that, and owned & operated the best autobody/paintshop in the county before that (most of ones doing it now originally learned the trade from him). There's very little that he can't do/excel at...

No my dad was good at stuff

No, my father died 25 years ago and I still have some things that he put together....he was great at being handy (though he was a medical doctor by profession). He even laid brick at our old house (where I grew up) that was still there as of just a few years ago.

My Grandfather was an architect while my Dad was growing up and would draw up plans to custom birdhouses for my Dad and his younger siblings to build that they would sell for extra side cash.

Yes. His worst broken creation was an abomination called Tokota apparently he couldn't even that right.
