Do you have respect for the police in the US?

Just watched a vid where a black guy was strapped to a chair by four white police officers, beaten unconscious and left blind in one eye.
I can't believe these are the ppl who are entrusted to protect the public, and I'm sure they'll get away with it.

I think police are people and can be fallible just like everyone else. They can also be corrupt, there's some good ones (like regular people) but there's some horrible ones. There's def. plenty that abuse their authority and probably do in secret.

@SatanBurger do you think enough is done to prevent corruption in the force?
SatanBurger · 36-40, F
@JovialPlutonian Not at all, it's mostly ignored.

small picture of US cops

here's the video by the way

We can't even see where he is being hit or how

@Jackaloftheazuresand mate if that's deemed acceptable then that's just bs. Like I said 5 fully grown men that are trained to combat ppl against one drunk man is ridiculous. Even if they are authorised to do that doesn't mean they need to. You are merely defending them because you think them noble. You need to grow up mate, it's clearly unnecessary even if they have authority. If I have a license to kill doesn't mean I have the need to go round killing ppl. It's an abuse of power clearly. I doubt you'd wake up to what self evident but that's the bliss that comes with ignorance, it allows one to continue doing what they wish if they ignore that they're doing anything wrong. Anyway we're not getting anywhere unfortunately with this conversation so oh well 🤷🏻‍♂️

Neither was Phillip Brailsford deemed a corrupt police officer. In fact he was acquitted. But is it still right? Is it moral just cause you can operate within the law?

Warning: very disturbing footage

I remember reading an account of a black man who became a police officer. I was surprise how patient he was with people. One incident he recounted I even thought not only was he justified of beating someone but the person really deserved it, but yet he merely struggled with this man and was able to restrain him without beating him down.

But I just bring him up to contrast him with these other police officers. Some hide behind their badges, their guns, their protocols, behind what is legal but morally questionable. Can the wicked find a loophole not only on our law but also our morality?

Versus a blackman who restrained himself even when he could have easily justified himself.

Let's not forget slavery was legal too in the past. Doesn't mean it was right. Something is legal doesn't mean it's right.

@IHateMyLife0MeDie I find it hard to believe that some think it is right.

JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@TheOneyouwerewarnedabout is it because he's black?
No it’s because you’re a whiny puss and I wanted to annoy you 😇@JovialPlutonian
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M

ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
I do have respect, but I guess not for all of them.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
Of course there are police that wish to do a good job but it shouldn't be enabled that those that don't can continue to do their job.@ShaythePanTransMan
ShaythePanTransMan · 22-25, T
@JovialPlutonian Yeah....
BlueRain · F
There are bad apples everywhere. I have the highest respect for police. Who will you call in an emergency? Police.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueRain tbh we don't have these issues in England, a police officer would be put in prison if they did that over here.
BlueRain · F
You can’t say all police officers.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@BlueRain and I'm not
Miram · 31-35, F
I respect the person, not the position.
IHateMyLife0MeDie · 41-45, M
I live close enough to Eastpointe, Michigan where this happened. Grosspointe and Detroit I've driven alot to.

To answer your question. If you really became a cop to help people, and have some patience with people, then yes I respect you. Perhaps you're even brave enough to take some risk and not hide behind some protocol then I really have great respect for you.

But if you're looking to do things, if you can unncessarily hurt, injure, maim, even kill, to take it as far as you can but still be within the law then I have no respect for you.
Ewitsu · F
After a little incident between me, a cop, and a judge I don't respect them as much and I don't trust them
Coralmist · 41-45, F
Wow awful😟... I generally do respect them but of course SOME think they are above anything
Coralmist · 41-45, F
Just so sad... he probably had no weapon @JovialPlutonian
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Coralmist you even see the police office that beat him put gloves on just before hand, it's disgusting.
Coralmist · 41-45, F
infiniterealism · 51-55, M
What did he do? Any idea?
infiniterealism · 51-55, M
@JovialPlutonian I agree some have become criminals because these criminals will shoot them in their face just because the police asked a question.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@infiniterealism I don't really see why they have to become criminals
infiniterealism · 51-55, M
@GoldenWorm Far from white.
Reject · 26-30, M
It's easier to get away with crimes as a police officer. Both through the unsuspecting job and knowledge of how the law enforcement system works.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Reject yeh buts what's worse is those in power that know officers are in the wrong let them get away with it. They should be setting an example, it's their duty.
Reject · 26-30, M
@JovialPlutonian It's usually a very close bond between officers. They face dangers together and share the same passions. Similar to soliders on a battlefield they're almost like family to each other in a lot of cases. So looking out for one another to the point they'll excuse corruption isn't strange to see.
JovialPlutonian · 36-40, M
@Reject they should be looking out for each other to not fall into corruption, same with soldiers. There's no honour in corruption.
GoldenWorm · 51-55, M
Way to many cops are utter shit. Worse is the rest covering for them.
Biffed · 26-30, M
show me a pic your disbelief pls
I better not visit the US 😕
