I was in a really shady part of town and needed to be picked up.

I called my mother at lunchtime in the school cafeteria to tell her I was getting out early. The thing was, the damn phone took my money, but I was yelling, "Hello...hello..." into the phone and I could hear my mom on the other end, but the call wasn't transmitting. She was sure she was getting an obscene call and when I called the second time my one brother took the call.He didn't hear me either, swore at me, and hung up in my ear.

On the way home, I saw another pay phone at the corner of the gas station's parking lot. I called again, this one went through and my brother answered again."Let me talk to Mom," I snapped.

I explained to Mom - but she never made my brother apologize for swearing at me. It was the last time I ever used a pay phone .
