There is a saying "The nice guy finishes last" and it seems that kind people often times get victimized. I say if you meet a kind person, you are beyond lucky and should not take advantage.
I tend to believe in karma... Nice guys don't finish last, pushovers do. There's nothing wrong with being kind, unless it's always at your own expense.
