Why do people make "your feelings don't matter" their mantra?

Everyone has feelings, everyone wants to be heard, and everyone has things that bother and offend them.

So it seems pretty hypocritical to me when certain people adopt a "f*ck your feelings" attitude. This seems to be a common thing from the same people who accuse everyone of being "snowflakes". Yet these same people will have things that offend and upset them because they're human and those are normal emotions.

If you say "your feelings don't matter", remember that the next time you're upset about something and you want someone to listen.

Unfortunately most people are like that and when I was tiny someone told me before being mean to someone I should put myself in their shoes and since then that sentence has been like oxygen for me.. I just can't hurt people even when they're asking for it. Though if I constantly get pushed then something inside me snaps

Feelings matter to them when it's their feelings being hurt.

@Unequal2Trash Yes, that's the fundamental hypocrisy of it all.

Your feelings are yours alone, and they do not outweight factual information. That's why. It's a response to people who believe their feelings decide objective reality for everyone else. In which case, no, your feelings don't matter.

@Sicarium Feelings and facts really shouldn't be compared. They are apples and oranges. But if the discussion is about feelings, there's no reason to discount them just because you don't feel the same way.

@SW-User They shouldn't, but plenty of people try. And no, I'm not talking about discussions about feelings.

@MalteseFalconPunch There are valid concerns with people who seem to seek out being offended or those who act like feeling something is true is the same as knowing it.

But to make a blanket statement like that is going too far--that's just setting yourself for hypocrisy because there will be a time when you're offended, etc.
